Default [TEC] Question. Link/Unlinking/Adding Equipment in the UPC

While on patrol, one of the starboad diesel engines was destroyed. The game discontinued propulsion for the entire starboard side. In the UPC file they link them together ... here's the snipet :

[UserPlayerUnit 1.FunctionalSubsystem 1]
ID= DieselPropulsionPort
NameDisplayable= Port Side Surface Propulsion
FunctionalType= PropulsionSurface
IDLinkFunctionalSubsystemSlots= EqSlot13, 0, EqSlotEEPA, 1, EqSlotEEPF, 1, EqSlotDEPA, 1, EqSlotDEPF, 1
[UserPlayerUnit 1.FunctionalSubsystem 2]
ID= DieselPropulsionStb
NameDisplayable= Starboard Side Surface Propulsion
FunctionalType= PropulsionSurface
IDLinkFunctionalSubsystemSlots= EqSlot14, 0, EqSlotEESA, 1, EqSlotEESF, 1, EqSlotDESA, 1, EqSlotDESF, 1

In reality, the diesel engines are used to drive four main generators which in turn supply the electrical power to drive the four main propulsion motors.

My question ...

1. Can they be unlinked and another FunctionalSubsystem added?

I'm way behind the times when it comes to modding and I surmise you have to add more entries into the other UPC's to reflect damage etc. Has this been done before?

Thank you in advance .
