Maybe a silly question...

OK so somehow I got transfered to Pearl. Started in Manila, been on a few missions, got a new boat after a very tough patrol, now I'm at Pearl.

Here's the problem.

I was given orders to patrol the Java sea. How am I supposed to do that...the boat doesn't have enough fuel! I wasn't half way there when I got down to 50%!

Am I supposed to cheat or just have no successful patrols?

I must be missing something lol

What you can do is stop at a port along the way and do a refit. You'll get some fuel and any torpedoes that you might have spent.

Sounds like a bug though.

Hmmm Pearl to Java sea....

Keep it at 2/3 and see if you can make it to a port... Remember you can always submerge and use electric, i'm pretty sure they recharge slowly even when out of diesel. Kinda sucks though.

Also make sure you're not charging batteries on the way.

Batteries are fully charged when I leave port. I never even dived, just set a course and started on my way, running out of fuel.

I had that too, I started out in USS Pike! (gotta love that name). In, ehm, ah well. some random island around the phillipines. Along the way i get transfered down to Australia. Then they offer me a brand new shiny Cato. (Which proved to be old and rusty). and i got transfered to pearl when getting that one. I got orders to go over to the same places which i had patrolled when i was based of that part of the world.

and here's my question. On my way there, i got a radio report on a large convoy heading my way!. So i set up a nice ambush. totally emptied my torpedo reserves, and then desperately surfaced, and went all guns blazing with the deck gun. (Since i had failed to sink the destroyers due to ALOT of stupid pre-detonated torps.). I also had the time to reload the torpedes with realistic reloading . Too much saké that day for the japanese navy i think.

They scored a decent hit on me, which reported to damage the engines (Dunno if it was both electric and diesel, im sure it was electic anyway). And that was later reported as fixed. Then started to head back to base and noticed i was almost outta fuel. I managed to get down to eastern australia, And that fuel was just about enough for me to get to pearl. I thought it was odd, and wondered if i maybe sustained some damage from that shell that hit me? The repair screen showed everything was looking great. Or should i fire my 3x bernards that i hired for damage control, they might be fixing everything with cheap duct tape:hmm:

Sry for sidetracking your thread m8

Anyway, love the game now past 1.2.

I never run to a patrol zone on standard, it guzzles diesel. Try 2/3 or even 1/3.

My typical patrol to the East China Sea goes like this: leave Pearl, run at Ahead Full to Midway. This uses up about 20-25% of the fuel. Refit to get a full tank of diesel. Head west at ahead 1/3. Once you get a few days west of Midway, start spending the days underwater and nights on the surface, all at ahead 1/3. Arrive on station with 74% diesel remaining. Hunt using fuel as needed until fuel reaches 50% or torpedoes run out, then return to Midway by the same method. Refit and return to Pearl to end the patrol.

these are great ideas. I keep running out of fuel on my patrols ever since I decided that 100% realism was the "Real Man's" way to play

This is one of the features I really dislike about the game, I don't start careers from Pearl Harbor because of it, I spend more game time in transit and have hardly any fuel to do anything when I get there, later in the war when alot of the ports have been captured you have even fewer places to refuel.

*edit* I should mention I'm not interested in extending the ammount of time in transit by going even SLOWER than my usual 2/3 ahead.

Sorry to state the obvious mate, but all you need to do is uncheck the limited fuel button in options, BUT if you want to use high realism then i'm affraid you'll have to do it the hard way like others have said -1/3 or 2/3 speed then submerge by day and travel by night when closer to target

Thanks for the idea's. I think its pretty stupid to have subs leave pearl and go patrol that far west when there are already sub bases there!

I don't want to set unlimited fuel, and I don't feel like spending a lot of time at 1/3 speed with time compression that reverts back to 1 anytime some crewman passes gas. I know its a simulation, but jez...I wanna have some targets! Not spend 30 mins just GETTING to the patrol area then sit on my hands for a few days only to spend another 30 minutes heading BACK...

I don't always have hours and hours to spend playing a game at one time...

I will try to transfer back to the western area.
