Default Brit test

Quote:
‘Britishness’ test for immigrants to Britain

Filipinos applying to be permanent residents in the United Kingdom will have to be able to answer such questions as who is the head of the Church of England, when was Queen Elizabeth II crowned, or how many members does the Scottish parliament have.

http://www.manilatimes.net/national/...70402top4.html

I have no idea how many members the Scottish parliament has.

I just wonder how many of us UK folk would pass this test?

I couldn't really be sure on any of them.

Church of England - I'm a pagan, doesn't interest me

Queen of England - not a big fan of the Royal family

Scottish parliament - north of Watford-who cares?

all said slightly tongue in cheek

Why would a Filipino want to live in the UK?

I don't really see the point!
Anyone can learn a list of facts about the UK and I don't see who benefits!

The money would bet better spent on language, employment and integration classes for those who are already in the UK. A immigrant who can work, communicate and live in the UK is far better than a immigrant who knows how may Scottish MPs there are as far as I can see.

There was talk of Immigrants having to learn [basic] English as a pre-requisite but all went quiet; no doubt the PC brigade got hold of that one, can just imagine it ..

'Forcing' People to learn English is an infringement of their Human Rights etc.

Probably not me for a start.
Due to my second rate history education where we spent all of our time learning how to differentiate between 'primary' and 'secondary' evidence and never quite got around to actually looking at any real history.
As far as the politics goes.... who gives a stuff? you get a turd sandwich or a giant douche for your main candidates, all of the others are even more pointless and arbitrary; the sooner the immigrationists* learn this the better they'll fit in.

*My latest addition to my growing Nu-Speak vocabulary hehe, along with mentalist (no connection to the previous or to the genuine dictionary deffinition).

Immigrants can speak English for example -

"Point me to the benefit office"

"I speak no English"

"whoopy I get a house and big benefits, time to tell my family and friends back home"

Immigrants know this is a soft country. Forget tests and tighten up on the law.

There is a minimum English requirement to do the test. You have to either have a cert saying you know English well enough, but the test is also proof you have a good grasp of English as it is quite tough.

I know my wife passed it but she has a degree in English, but the UK govt doesn't recognise that as she got it in Russia. Turned out on the end she didn't have to worry.

One thing i like about the poms is the royal family i reckon the Queen rocks she has been through alot of family issues in the past and still stands proudly shes a rock to the british nation. Ive always liked the royal family ever since i first saw them on tv when a kid. My sons know not to run down the royal family in front of dad cause he'll go into one of his 2 hr lectures on why the royals rock! :rotfl:

Yeah man God save the Queen

Although i reckon prince charles should do something about them ears of his!
