Torpedoes not wanting to go straight?

Just curious, does anyone have any explanation why certains torpedoes want to turn instead of going straight?

For example I had a merchant ship already damaged, the range was less than 1000 and the merchant was barely moving.

My sub was facing the merchant and after I had launched the torps they both made a wide turn to the left and sailed off into the sun.....

BTW I was using the default torp settings.
