Default Radar depth?

Is there a radar depth command in the game? I seem to be missing this; would sure like to be able to run it.

(Shouldn't be that complicated to replace it with SHIII's Snorkel Depth command in any case)

Aha, good to hear.

It's also possible to program in the unused snorkel depth for the purpose as I thought

I cant figure how to use the radar while submerged.
As soon as I command a dive at set the depth to 45ft~48ft, the radar is unabled. No way to turn it on !!
Neal, how do you do to activate that ?

Just to precise, I am trying this on a late Gato or Balao class with late SJ.

Thanks for the help !

You have to go the radar station and flip the power switch, you can't do it through the HUD.

Thanks! I'll try that .
Have you noticed that the radar turns off itself sometimes ?? Specially during heavy seas. Am I alone with this particularity ?

Ok I just tried on the mission with the Balao (1945). This mission where you have to sink the Yamato in Kure.
I was at a depth of 45ft, I tried to turn on the radar with the switch and not with the HUD as the button is not active. It didnt work.
I am on 96% realism settings (just the external view possible to check the radar out of the water)

Please check these screenies :

Is it possible to try yourself with this particular mission and settings ?

Thanks !

Same thing would happen in SH3 with heavy seas. If a wave large enough to cover the antennae hits it then the radar mast would be lowered and shut off. I'm not surprised the same thing happens in SH4.

No you're not it happens to me in sh3 but then do you think you can run a radar on a low sub with waves crashing over and getting those "primitive" electronics wet?

ok. but it happens when I am on surface and not when I am at the radar depth (in this last case, I cant simply turn the radar on...this is my main problem !)

I can understand that a big wave could make the radar turn off but it happens too often IMHO to be wave-linked. Specially on surface, the Gatos are bigger boats than the uboote and their radars were much higher placed too !

Thanks for your reply.

Are you using Gato or Balao? I've had issues with Balao's radar.

Many thanks !! You have pointed the problem out !
An issue with the Balao radar...

It works perfectly with the Cat class (I have always wondered why this name of Gato ?? Is it a place in USA or something related with this country ? )

Which is far better than today's practice of naming submarines after the cities that Congressmen who push defense budgets through come from .
