That picture is at least 10cm res level or better (never mind the difficulty of catching the thing in midair). The wonders of modern technology, where every person now has access 5cm (most likely) or better satellite pictures...

I am glad that the internet has given ordinary people a tiny percentage of the power governments have been abusing since the first surveillance satellite.

Very cool photo. I scrolled southwards to try to find a source platform, but it seems like you can't go far before the imagery switches over to a different date.

You have GOOD eyes. Just what were you really looking for?

P.S. It's a SLAM, not a SLAM-ER

P.S.S. You CAN set waypoints for the missile. It may not have been launched directly from the south.

The smoke trail leads to the edge of that particular set of images.

Not on the download version of Google Earth. And the smoke trail dissapates. SLAM's don't use booster motors to launch from the air.

There is a missile test facility west of Salt Lake City - I believe close to or in Box Elder County.

This is one of the cooler things I've seen on Google Earth.

Default Umm, guys...

Umm guys...drop the conspiracy theories, will yah? Take a REAL close look and you'll see darker painted wings on the objects. It's an airplane. Probably a DC-9 or newer. Think fuselage, thin wings and rearmounted tail engines, hence the thin combustion trail.

It was amusing though, but it IS an aircaft

I honestly hope you are joking...

I know a hell of alot about airplanes, heck I even fly them, to tell you that that IS a MISSILE!!! Tell me, why would something that big (you say a DC-9) have such small wings? The dark spots you are seeing is a shadow of the ground. In fact, click this link. Type in Orlando International Airport in the search box. What you are seeing is beautiful Orlando International Airport, with four terminal buildings that are in a square arrangement. They are shaped like "T"s and "Y"s. Go to the bottom right "Y" shaped stucture. See the plane parked at the bottom right of this building? That's a DC-9. Explain how an object that's closer to the satallite gets smaller?

Hey ASWNut .. look closer .. it really IS a plane. Here is brightened version:

The wings are dark and these are no shadow. You can also see that the trail is double at the beginning (not on this picture, on the google).
Also size of the object is roughly 100ft. That is too much for cruise missile.

Thumb up for the sharp eye of Lt. Staumeier.

Btw. note how '2006 google' watermark popped up with the contrast change.
