Well, I'd say it's unlikely William would be allowed into the combat zone, unless it's in a very well protected position - somewhere in the area of the UK commander's drinks cabinet (to badly paraphrase Blackadder).

Other members of the Royal family have been in combat including Prince Phillip who served in the med (and was mentioned in dispatches) and King George VI, before he was king, who was a subbie at the battle of Jutland - both on the RN side before anyone asks

Yep, they had a ridiculously German name too: Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha... until King George had it changed in 1917 for obvious reasons.
