Default keel depth in recognition manual?

I saw a thread lately (namely the manual targeting sticky) that says that keel depth is listed in the recognition manual. This came as news to me. In my manual it shows measurements from the waterline up but no measurements for keel. I've always been able to just eyeball it with good accuracy, but is it actually listed there and I'm missing something?

Hi scalelokt,

The Keel of the ship is indeed listed under the Ship Recognition Manual, although it is listed as the ships Draft, which is the same. It's a wee bit confusing if you go in there looking for the word Keel. The Draft of the ship is the depth the hull of the ship submerges to underwater, measured from the waterline to the bottom of the ships Keel.

Hope this helps mate, and makes busting open those Large Tankers a little easier

Essential knowledge if you're planning on using magnetic torps for angled shots or to try "backbreaker" hits...

Draft, or draught, is also a term for a mug of beer. I highly recommend that one as well.

I also noticed that in manual torpedo mode, there is additional information in the ID manual for the location of what I believe are the engines and fuel tanks, which are not shown in autotarget mode.

The additional information is also available in autotarget mode. In all cases you must be within 1000 meters of the target and close to a gyroangle of 0 degrees ( I believe its within 15 degrees to either side ) for the information to show up.

As a caveat to GWX users, these locations are no longer accurate. Critical locations (engine rooms, fuel bunkers etc.) still exist and can cause more damage, but their locations may be different.

The new GWX ships never had the boxes indicating their critical locations accurately placed (designers just copied the boxes from old ships over to the new ones). Since GWX changed the compartments around on the original ships, the boxes indicating their location may or may not be accurate as well.
With that caveat in mind, this is the link to a chart showing the ship's critical areas. Just keep in mind that it is no longer accurate and only gives the most general of guidelines:
