Default Range of Aircraft.

I was on my 8th patrol in GWX and had received two Iron crosses. I had survived several air attacks and was feeling prety cocky so I upped the transition from 128 to 256 and got my lawn mowed by two of them. I was a great distance from land so I was confortable at 256 X. End of story do not get cocky in GWX. Is there a way to figure there range from land???

I think the info is in the manual?
Then again, did they come from a carrier?
If so, range don't matter if a carrier is close by!

In late 43 the range *should* cover the entire north atlantic with no gaps.

The "Air Gap" below greenland was finally closed in late '43. It was a hudge blow for the u-boats.

This is sadly not the case in GWX

There was a map that shipped with the game that showed areas of approximate Allied air cover in 1939, 1941, and 1943. I think it got modded pretty heavily in NYGM and GWX. :hmm:

I was looking at this in my config files today. For regular SH3, it's 2500km. What I want to know is how those little planes can carry so many depth charges.

The only planes attacking in the middle of the Atlantic should be B-24s. If by "little planes" you mean single or twin-engine planes, they shouldn't be there.

Well, maybe PBYs. I'm not sure of their patrol range.

I seem to get a lot of little British planes (Spitfires?) that will drop tons of depth charges on me from hundreds of KM away from land. They even seem to fly across occupied France to get to me out there.

Oh, well. They're not that difficult to deal with, and they spice the game up a little.

Are they dropping depth charges, or bombs? Some of the bomb loads are for 100 pound bombs, and I think they could carry up to 6 of those.

I thought GWX planes only dropped bombs, not depth charges. Still, Hurricanes shouldn't be too far from land. That said, exactly how far from land were you?

"Flying across France" seems to imply your near the Med?:hmm:
Could be coming outta North Africa or Gibralter if that's the case.
Just a guess.

Oh heck.

If you're in the med... that place is plane heaven - for the planes!

Chances are your most frequent encounters would be off Malta, just because of its central location, but there's everything from bases in North Africa to Gibraltar to carriers in task forces. There's a reason the original SHIII map doesn't have any "1943" air cover circles in the med - after 1943, there's nowhere you can hide in that lake

Nah, I was outside of St. Naz when I started getting pounded by aircraft. I have no idea where they came from.
