Default Cry Havoc! And Let Slip The Dogs of War

Patrol 6/7...GWX...Mid January to Mid Feburary, 1940

Type VIIB...Oberluetnant Rheinhard Kohlus, Commanding - assigned to patrol grid CG88 down by the Gibralter Meat Grinder.

Took the North Atlantic sweep around Britain and due south along the deep water route passing the Rockhall Banks. Took out 5 small merchants...mostly with d/g fire to conserve eels. Passing Biscayne, took out 3 Large Merchants. Arrive CG88...took out a Pyro Ammo ship with my last eel...had five rounds of 88 left. Head for Thalia in Cadiz to resupply. Total bag on P6...83000+ tons. Awarded KC with Oak and promoted to Kptlt. (Currently my Herr Kptlt Kohlus has racked up 259,000 tons...and it's now early March, 1940 on patrol 7...that's more than Kretchmer for the whole war!)

Out of Thalia now on P7, cruising north up the west coast. 3 Large Cargos within a couple of hours of each other near Biscayne. Swing WNW for the deep water route. I've got 10 torps and still a good supply of d/g...I'm near Scapa Flow and learn that the carrier "Illustrious" is in port along with a couple of auxilliary cruisers.

Yeah...I gotta do it. Swing around to the eastern approaches to Scapa through the narrow channels blocked by sunken vessels....easily get around them surfaced and slow...it's 0300, a full moon and no wind...and I saved the game!

It's gonna get real damned interesting this evening! (Sorry honey, I'll get some dinner later! LMAO)

-edit- when I get a chance, I'll post the patrol logs...I've been kinda busy. Anybody else going blind with these night runs on the computer screen??

Sounds like a good career going for you. I'm interested in what happens later on in the war for this patrol. Specifically after 1943. Careful saving in the habors or around warships....can create havoc! Report back if your not on the bottom

So far, so good, Hawk.

It's right about the time BdU has suspended Atlantic ops. Since I'm on a "Null" assignment out of the Milk Cow, I'm killing time heading back to Wilhelmshaven. When I'm out of ordinance, I'll head in. It'll be nice when Lorient opens for business, these North Atlantic jogs are tiring!

Follow up:

HMS Victorius - Illustrious Class Carrier, 23000 tons - resting nicely on the bottom of Scapa Flow.

Expensive gamble...4 dead and minor damage (for only 23K) but survived to tell about it.

I'd post my patrol logs, but they're all in HTML format so I can't upload them to my pic album.
