For default GWX we used all of Fubar's regular U-boat schemes since there was a full set. They are also historically accurate.

Honestly, the GWX team is worn out... and I'm about to order them to go to sea for awhile.

Don't worry... we'll set up more variety with the U-boats down the track.

CodyLang,

Hi Mr Chris,

Can I just point out that if you use any custom skins that are packed in dat files then, until new versions are made using GWX's dats, you will loose the fixes contained in GWX. (i.e IX Cable fix, VII Compass fix etc). You will be alright if the skins just consist of tga textures.

BTW - Thanks for the plug

Im using Fubars VIIB skin at the mo when the new GWX dat skins are released will it just be a case of pasting the new dat over the one i installed with Fubars skin?

I'm not sure at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that Fubar's VIIB skin is textures only, so you still have the sub fixes.

People only started to pack their textures into the dat files to increase performance and to decrease d/l time. The SH3 engine will pick up the textures if placed in the correct folder and use those.

As you know GWX has removed all textures it can and re-packed them into dat files, this is the only way they could make so many graphical changes and still give a better performance than GW1.1a.

@ danlisa: Matey, like i wrote in the PM i sent you, and just to be clear (i dont want to screw up my install of GWX..): This means that i could do a repaint of the VIIB or VIIC, since the .tga's belonging to them can be repainted without repacking the .dat? (Since the .tga's needed are in the TNormal/tex folder as .tga files)

Yep, that's right.

FYI - all boats can be skinned this way, just by using the textures/tga's. Infact, I'm using my IX skins in the same way. Just haven't got round to u/l them.

My advice would be, if you make your skins JSGME ready, that you advise people to only have one enabled at a time. That way there is no chance of a cross-over between them.

Also, if you can, resize the tga texture file to 1024 x 1024, that way it's back to stock and there will be no ill-effects on GWX.
