Ahoy shipmates, a quick question:-
On looking at one of my officers SH3 Commander made this suggestion "It may be time to replace this officer so that he can gain command of his own U-Boat." This was refering to one of my most qualified officers, now why would I want to let an officer go that has loads of experience, is qualified as torpedo and gunnery officer etc??? Does this mean if i keep this officer he will eventually be transfered off my boat or will he remain onboard but have a morale level lower than a worms grave? |

I think it's basically that as officers grew in experience they left the boat to assume their own commands. It won't automatically transfer him for you, but it's more realistic if you do transfer him.
I don't think it affects morale, it's just something to make the game more realistic. Maybe someone who knows more can add to this. Cheers, Dan |

This means that your officer has enough experience to command his own boat. Usually the officers in U-Boats were getting command of their own boats after 3-5 patrols. You don't have to let him go if you do not want to. It's just a suggestion from SH3Cmd to make things more realistic. There will be no effect on morale or the run of the boat. I never let anyone go, as I'm trying to have the best crew possible in my patrols.

I try and play it as close to a simulator as I can, and so I let crewmen who have distinguished themselves have a shot at captaining their own boat.

Let him go, build up a noob Oberfahnrich and let him go when he gets good enough. It's all part of the circle of uboat life.

I always let my 1WO go, as he is part of the command structure. I never let the Chief go, though; engineers are not command officers and never got commands. On the other hand, in the book Das Boot they had a second Chief Engineer aboard, as the real Chief was leaving after the patrol to teach at the engineering school.

I do as Jimbuna says.... keep him. It makes for a crack crew with the experience they all rack up. What kaptain wants to keep retraining new crewmen. Now if his name is Bernard, I'd let him go asap...... maybe over the side even.
