D@MN the TORPEDOES, FULL SPEED AHEAD

The first thing I want to make it clear is the topic. This famous wording is said by Admiral David Glasgow Farragut. "Torpedo" refers to "mines" here . So don't mix it up with T1, T2, ... T5 (perhaps T11) you use to attack enemy

See http://www.military.com/Content/More...L_farragut_bkp for details

I've got a brand new installation of GW 1.1a in my computer. This is my first taste of GW mod. (I used to use some mods to fix bugs and enhance harbour traffic) That is a great mod and I'm looking forward for GWX to come out

However, on my second patrol of my Type IIA, I encountered some mines and really sucked up my boat

This is a mine of a minefield near Dover. I went there so that I can hunt more easily (I got 5 fish left and wanta to use up all of them before I go back to base)

I accidentally hit a mine, and the patrol group (2 V&W, 2 Armed Trawler, 2 Pt boat) woke up. They chased around me. I had to leave quickly but quietly

While I was leaving, I hit another mine again, which gave away my position. Also, I had to recover from flooding, which futher show my presence.

After several attempt to save the boat. I realized that the boat will be wasted soon after 2 DC exploded really close to my boat and I ordered blow ballast tanks. Many men dead in the desperate attempt to save the boat.

After surfacing, I realized I didn't have the option to surrender and have a visit to British POW camp. And what is my final resting place, is made clear to everyone.

Just 3 questions to ask. Won't take u long

1) Which supermod doesn't have mines & subnets (impossible) or provide options to remove enemy + friendly mine/subnets?
2) In case that every mod contains mine + subnets and there is only option to remove friendly mine (like GW 1.1a)? How can I know that hostile mines/subnets are near my boat?
3) Can I replace the Campaign_RND.mis by original unpatched file to remove all the mines+subnets since unpatched ver doesn't contain mines? (seems possible but will it crash the game?)

Thanks for your help.

Spotting mines - if you are in an area where you think mines are located, use your Obs Scope while submerged to make sure the path ahead of you is clear. (not realistic but safer)

Mines & Subnets are not in the RND layer. (jump in to correct me) IIRC they are in the SCR layer and I think the only way to remove them is manually via the mission editor. (GW1.1a) Rather a long task.

I say bite the bullet and get used to em. You may not know where the mines are, but you can use that kaptains gut feeling and guess where they are. You can bet that enemy harbours, and the areas around them are mined. Also, avoid the channel, especially after 1940. Remember, the ememy is out to kill you, hitting those mines was no accident.

Man, judging by those pictures you are going to have a lot of explaining to do!!! I recommend just staying away from the ports.

I believe the GW mod allows for friendly mines not to be installed. Reinstall GW and see if that is an option.

Like the reat of us, your just going to have to deal with them. I'd rather have the realism. What's the sense of having realism set at 100% for the boat if the entire enviroment isn't set that way.

Just my 2 pence for what it's worth.

Solution is quite simple and been quoted here many times :

Don't ever go inside the English Channel...

SH3Gen will map the minefields for you if thats what you want

Failing that you can open the scr in mission ed and delete them all but that spoils the fun

Oh and remember STAY OUT OF THE ENGLISH CHANNEL

Also SH3 Commander lets you change "Dead" to "Surrendered".
