Default US Midterm Elections

The Midterm congressional elections are coming up and I thought I'd run a poll (open to anyone US or otherwise who has an opinion) on how you think the elections will turn out (not how you want them to turn out). The election is a really big deal in my congressional district, Illinois District 6, which covers most of Du Page County. Alot of national and foreign press have been covering it because of who is running on the Democratic ticket, Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq war veteran who lost both her legs in an RPG attack on her Blackhawk. Shes running against a socially conservative Republican, Peter Roskam, to replace the long serving Republican congressman Henry Hyde (of Clinton impeachment fame). It's a very big deal because my district is considered to be one of the most solidly Republican in the nation, and if a Democrat wins it would be earth shaking. Can't wait to see what happens, but I will be proud to cast my vote for Duckworth on election day!
BTW, I belive the Democrats will gain control of both houses of congress.

I wish they could find a way, but I can't see the Dems winning control of the Senate at the moment...there's just not enough Dem support in Red states like VA, TN, and MO (despite the fact that all the races are very close). They should, however win control of the House handily.

I stated this earlier...I say the heck with both parties! We need a party that is true to form, and looks at the issues and not the blame game. Just think what would happen if the "moderates" of both parties broke off and created a true independant party, leaving their former parties behind completely?

Granted, I believe that with the Iraq situation and good ole Fooleygate, the Democrats will win.

I'd like to see a complete stalemate in the Senate, and a technical majority in the house. Say, 50/50, and 218/217. I'd like to see long-term incumbents swapped out to make that stalemate. Teddy Kennedy for a Republican, Orin Hatch for a Democrat.

I'd also like to see a lot of Libertarians in there. Basically, the political spectrum isn't one dimensional anymore. There's a second dimension (making the "political spectrum" into a triangle, rather than a line), and it's the Libertarian dimension. I'm somewhere in between a Lib and a Rep.

I'd rather have a complete stalemate at this point. I'm disgusted with both the Democrats and Republicans.

I'm with you on the Libertarian dimension.

Thirded.

The Democrats are a lost cause and need to re-discover their purpose in life, the Republicans need to de-Liberalize themselves and beg to be forgiven and accepted back into the conservative lap and we need the Libertarians to put and keep both of them, plus the government and the state, in check.

I posted "Don't know" as we don't get much in the way of American election coverage here in Australia (Our Elections are bad enough).

I only hope it goes smoothly, and there is a clear win by one party, not a repeat of 2000. We don't want an American election to turn into a laughing stock again.

Actually all in office now and up for reelection need to be sacked. They're all liars and cheats looking out for their pockets only. Trouble is the American public as a collective whole isn't smart enough to get rid of these bums. It's time to try and find someone honest to be in office whether it's local, state or even federal.

Trouble is people still vote by party affiliation. You have to look deep and figure out how honest and true a candidate is. But that isn't always possible. Maybe candidates need to take a lie detector test like us common folk must do for certain jobs. Wouldn't that clean house. LOL

How can you vote for candidates when they vote themselves a raise and people are starving, or can't afford health care in America?

I think that the Democrats will win control of both houses of Congress in my opinion. In any case we will find out soon enough.

Well I expect a shift towards the Democrats, but I'm just not sure how much yet, but as somebody mentioned, the President will probably start having to use his Veto powers more frequently.

Default independent

I agree I'm ready to be part of a true independent party. I don't know what people are thinking when they vote democrat or republican, both of the parties voted for the situation we are now in. It's okay to vote independent even if you don't think they will win, it's time to let dems. and reps. know that the people of this country would like to take our country back.

Default I Agree

I think you stated this very well. I don't know what it will take for the people of this country to wake up before it is too late. This country is going down a very bad road. Nobody should have a party line, we are all conservative, liberal and independent in our own way. I think we should vote for the independent candidates who have not even had a chance. Reps. and Dems. have had years of power to change things, and the only changes they made were for the corporations. On tuesday, Nov. 7th it is the peoples job to go out and all vote for 3rd parties and show that the people are serious about taking this country back. This would wake up all the dems. and reps.
