Default GW question: Do you still lose renown for sinking nutrals?

I was patroling grid CG87 and I runinto 2 Brazilan ships. Not knowing if Brazil is nutral or not I attacked. Turns out Brazil is nutral, oops . Question, will lose renown with GW? Cuse I know Hitler declared open war or nutrals(excluding the USA)

And what the hell is this Country?

That's the flag of Portugal - a neutral nation not included in the stock game.

Not sure what flag that is, but GW still had Neutrals set for -1 so yes you lose renown.

As the renown value for sunk allied ships is 1 I think you get the same amount of renown deducted for sinking a neutral as you would gain by sinking an allied ship, depending on your realism settings.

In your Uzo/Ops/Attack Scope there is a dragable board showing Countries status during the war, with appropriate dates. Drag from top left corner.

It means that instead of adding the renown for sinking a ship, it subtracts the amount for a neutral.

I think that although you lose renown you get the tonnage

The tonnage maybe recorded but what good is that as GW only works on renown. There is no tonnage reward in GW.

Oh yes I totally agree with you. The only reason I said about the tonnage is for ....completeness

Well no
A neutral ship was only classed as a fair target if in an allied convoy or suspected of carrying materials for the war effort
If you take away the neutral factor you will be able to sink everything out there without a care in the world or even checking if its a legitimate target

Well thats under the Geniva Convetion.
Sometime in 1940 Hitler declared open war on nutrals. Delcaring that any ship within a zone(69 deg long?) can be sunk on sight. Although many Kleuns chose to respect Nutrality satais.

Just change the cfg file, for neutral ships -1 and just change it to

neutral 1

then youll gain renown for sinking them

You could also change axis -10 to axis 1 and you can gain renown for sinking german ships :rotfl:

you could even change it to axis 10 and you will get ten times the renown for sinking axis ships

you win! :rotfl:

by the way, the location of the file you want to edit is

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg

and this is the section

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=200
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100
NEUTRAL=-1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10

you probably will want to change it to

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=200
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100
NEUTRAL=1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10
