Default Shelling shore stations

Is there any merit or worthwhile rationale behind shelling port facilities? Can you actually destryo them, and do you get credit for any of it?

Shelling fuel dumps would have been too cool It would have made a nice flare to guide your friendly uboats to the enemy port to raid it and usefull (like a full moon) to be able to see the ships in pitch black night near the port.

But I'm an optimist...

What's sad is that shore batteries can't be destroyed. Is it possible to add collision meshes to them?
