Default Fun things to do with the .cfg files

It seems as though through manipulation of the .cfg files in notepad, you can basically have a 'debug mode' by tweaking numerical data to whatever you want.

What are some funny things you did with this? I heard someone who made a sub that went 100 knots!:hmm: It would also be funny to have torpedoes with obscenely long ranges. Some other stuff I'm wondering...

-Setting a torpedo type to have a a range of 10000 km, but a speed of only .00000001 knots or something, essentially turning it into a mine. I know subs deployed mines in the war, and this would be an easy ad-hoc way of implementing them.

-Tweaking historical encounters. i.e., if you happen to be in the vicinity of Pearl Harbor on the morning of Dec 7 1941, the port gets attacked by planes

-If you set the crush depth beyond 300 meters, does your sub vanish? I know sinking ships/depth charges vanish at this point, what if you survive that deep?

Edit the settings, so you can get the following,

Better AA guns from day 1 (I love my twin 37mm Flak gun!)

Chage conning tower intro dates (more firepower!!)

More ammo (What's firepower without the ammo to back it up!)

Edit introduction dates for torpedo's (I want my homming torp!)

Get upgades sooner (I'll take a radar, engine upgrade and snorkle to go, and I'll upsize my hydrophone as well!)

Make it cost less (I get it all for $24.99, plus a free set of steak knives? Bargin!)

Have work in all conditions (You mean this will work in the middle of Hurricane Katrina? Excellent!)

Have all this and still get blown to bits by the first swordfish that crosses your path. Priceless!!!!!!

Hello Incubus,

if you want to see a sub that is going 100 knots and more take a look at this movie:

Cheers!

That is class. Just class.

So, whos up for a multi-player Stunt Silent Hunter III with 100 knot ships then? Synchronised Subbing anyone?? lol

That was hilarious! Thank you for posting the link!

Have you seen the one with the Type XXI moving at high speed ramming ships? It was on realsimulation, but I don't see it there now.

WOW! I didn't know U-boats could do that! But since I saw it with my own eyes it must be true. I wonder how they lost the war?

Now I found something to do next time it rains.

Can you make the escorts go 100kph?

Imagine a convoy skimming across the Atlantic @ 250kph. A battleship doing 100 while firing main guns. Imagine trying to plot a firing solution.

Hmmmmm I wonder.

If your bored, go to your basic.cfg, take a boat you rarely use. For me that would be the VIIB. In a specific year, go to the value that holds what supercharger that boat comes equiped with. Default is probably -1. Super charger ID numbers are 1260 and 1261. Type in 1262 instead. (thats the snorkel).

Start a single mission, and watch the fun No need to start the engine, you have a ramjet in your uboat.

You'll havea uboat doing something like 1260 KM. It will gain so much speed, it will nose up out of the water like a hydrofoil. Any bump, depending on how you hit it, will either send you high into the air, or send you crashing into the depths spinning like a top. you just keep going and going until your crash into something. I swear, if get lucky and hit a wave right, you could probably send a boat flying over the english isles.

That dolphin video had me in stitches! :rotfl: I also really liked the part where it was doing barrel rolls underwater, very cool crash dive!

I wonder, with all the air time the sub can get, can you fire torpedoes while the tubes are out of water? Because it would be an absolute RIOT to leap out of the water, launch a spread of torps, and have them hit a ship ABOVE the waterline.

Some other stuff I'm wondering is tweakable with the cfg files-

-Number of tubes on the sub? Would be fun to fire a salvo of 20 torpedoes, 15 degree spread at a convoy, and see 'Torpedo Impact!' spam.

-Crank up the speed of the torpedo guns (to flak gun bullet speed), lower the reload down to a fraction of a second, nerf the damage big time, and increase the ammo by like x20. You now have torpedo machine guns, and strafe enemy ships. You fire rapidly, but it takes a large amount of shots to down even small ships. Best of all, you could use the T1 torps' bubble trail to shoo away destroyers (since ships seem to panic when they find torpedoes)

Thank you all for the nice comments on my video!

@SubConsciuos: No I haven't seen the video where a type XXI rams ships but I would be interested in the link too.

@Coda: I haven't tried it, but it should be possible to make ships travel faster. In the config files you can modify the max_speed and the eng_power (engine).

@Incubus: You can fire torps when midair but they fall down very fast, so it would be very hard to hit a ship from above. Also I'm not sure if the detonator works when above the surface.

Cheers!
