EDIT: It now occurs to me you actually wish to disable this feature. I'm uncertain how to do that.

I want to say it's in the *.sim files or the basic.cfg file? Not sure, I'd look for a mod that has that feature, such as the Kids SH3 mod recently posted here and see how they did it.

Wots frustrating about this situation is meeting a Merchant that has 'a sting in his tail' [peashooter] that opens fire so you try to show him what a real deck gun does only to be informed that your gun cannot be used in rough weather ?! Hang on a minute.. the Merchant can use theirs so wot's the difference ? So, to err on the side of caution you go to periscope depth only to find the Merchant now goes to 'warp factor 7' and you can't keep up with it; Dilemma or wot ?!

What's the difference? Lessee . . . The merchant gunner is standing on a platform about 20 meters above the waves, while the U-boat gunner is standing on the deckplate which, in rough weather, is underwater more often than above. One gets washed overboard, one doesn't. Albrecht von Hesse |

Ten minutes later had 15 Elco boats and three destroyers looking for me, and I still needed fresh air. I managed to creep along the north coast of Africa and back out to the Atlantic, but I don't think I could have done that '43 onwards. Made for an exciting lil time, yes yes. Albrecht von Hesse |

Click f10. Now you're at the deck gun position. The ammo option will be there at screen bottom right; (double?) click what you want.
{There might be another way... Something like... Click weapons officer and find the ammo sub-page --or click 'i' keyboard-- and then click the ammo type you want to use.} As far as which ammo type is stronger... AP might only be better when aimed at waterline against military vessels. I heard that somewhere maybe? It depends on how the sim is modeled. |

You can find this mod at UBRS. It's title simply as "Bad Weather Guns"

Open your NSS_UboatXX.cfg file (with notepad or another texteditor) (data\Submarine\NSS_Uboatxx\NSS_UboatXX.cfg) and change the values for "stormconditions" to the value you prefer. I don't recommend messing with the precipitation values as the side effect is this value also controls the point where crew change clothes to sou-west caps and oilskins. For those using GW, these values have already been set at a reasonable default level that doesn't have your crew operating under-water, LOL. ![]() |
