Sorry for not posting much lately, but I am having more fun with my vid capture card than I ever thought I would be. Why didn't I buy one of these ages ago? Also screwing around with XviD and x.264. Anyway, now I have to buy a NAS and and Media server to get this stuff out to my TV without having to turn it into a DVD or something. My CCE Pro compressor (MPEG-2) is still the best though for anything 2000 kbit and above. Below it, and x.264 or XviD would win.

Anyway, my thoughts on the subject are that I need a NAS for sure, and a Media server that is silent. Req will be for no fans and no noise imminating from the box on my TV. That means I really don't want a full blown media PC out there. Anyone experimented with this stuff? I see a couple of products from Dlink that fit the bill, but hopefully someone else here has some thoughts on it.

Here is a review of the DSM-520. I like the fact you aren't stuck with DLinks software and can use the Twonkyvision instead. Also, the Dlink looks fine for running multiple types of files, including Ogg support (something I can't live without). The downside is, I might need to run two seperate media server services depending on my file types since I am pretty sure the DSM-520 won't run .dvr-ms (MCE 2005 files) type media.

Not sure i am heading down the right path, but I think I am. I can use the NAS as a dedicated media wireless network that is seperate from my systems network, effectively running 3 different kinds of connections in my house. That is my thoughts at least.

If anyone is running a system like this in their house, let me know how well this setup works.
