For the Love of Zolton!!!

Need some pro advice, im going crazy, my *$&#!* computers wont network anymore - a week or so ago i caught a trogan which slowed down my PC's to a standstill after many attempts in trying to get rid of it and failed i reformatted both PC's & install OS's etc.,
Now all i want to do is network them like before which was so simple. Winxp pro as the server and win2k the client. Winxp with internet sharing enabled. Yet nothing works. Im just running a dial up with crossover cables and i set the network IP like this:

Winxp IP 192.168.0 1/255.255.255.0
Win2k IP 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1

Now that should work right? Well it doesn't i cannot see either PC on the PC's, i only see the pc im on. I have File and printer sharing enabled on both PC's, so it should show up.

All cards are installed, modem is on, cables are connected and firewall is turned off. I have gone over it dozen of times checking and rechecking that everything is enabled/installed. I cannot internet shared until the network is working. And what is even worse i cannot play a lan game of SH3

Any other IP config i could try out, or any other way of going about it? ive always used this method mention and never had trouble before. Also i might add that the trogan/virus attacked my network maybe its stuff it up internally?:hmm: Because after a reformatt it should work.

No the ping doesn't i go to command type ping 192.168.0.2 on the winxp pc and comes up with this error:
Request timed out. (4x)
Ping statistics sent - 4 Recieved - 0 Lost -4 (100% loss)

I type ping 192.168.0.1 on the win2k pc and get the same results.

Try and set both cards to 100 Mbit full duplex. If that doesn´t work try 10. One or both are probably set to "Autodetect" now.

Winxp was set to autodect and TP Half Duplex I changed it to TP Full duplex and turned off Autodetect.
Win2k was set to TP Full Duplex with autodect, i turned autodect off.

Restarted machines said a little prayer and check the network. Both machines can now see each other!!! Ive spent days going back and forth trying to figure out what was wrong, and all it was, was a simple problem you mentioned.:rotfl:How did i overlook that.

Thanks Gizzmoe!
