Where are the flags?

I was wondering, where are the flags, which show the nationality of the ships, stored in the game, I mean in what folder? I have used the search option in windows and gone through all of the tga's and I did not find any

Not sure about the stock game (been a long time since I played stock), but there are a couple of mods that make these flags available - one puts them on the front/outside of the recognition manual (this may come in GW 1.0 or may come from Jonz' multi-colored/covered regoc manual mod - I'm running them both so I don't know which did which) so you can see them as you click/flip through the sections before you actually "open" the book, and the other one adds a "flaggen.tga" file as a pull-down on the periscope screens (and maybe the UZO screen) that shows all the flags on one page along with the dates the countries were enemies/neutrals etc. - there is an updated version of that latter I just found the other day that adds the flags for some of the new countries added by the GW supermod (but should be usable without GW too), and it works great - see this thread for details:

[edit] - I just re-read your post and realized I probably misunderstood completely what you were asking and my response was way off base - sorry about that - I just searched through the stock game files and couldn't find the flag files either - either they've got some weird name, or they aren't .tga files or something. I'm sure someone knows this but you may want to ask over on the mods forum 'cause those guys would be the ones who play around with stuff like this and they probably would know right where these files are.

I don't think the files are TGA's.They could be compressed in some larger files but I might be totally wrong.

It's strange that the flags should not be TGA's because I have recently downloaded a fairly old mod that contains high LOD flags and all of these files are to be put in the data\texture\TNormal folder and just as I was about to do this it struck me, there are no flag files here at all. BUT, the German, both naval and merchant flag, are shown in this folder, in TGA format, none of the others.

Yes, they should be, but they're not, only the German one

I just looked in that folder and it's empty. Interesting...

I'm playing the stock game for now (waiting for NYGM 2.2 to arrive) and have wondered the same thing. I haven't found a way to access the flags in game, nor have I found them anywhere in the installation files.
