Default Nearly Got Away!

Hi all...Ok let me start..i seen a convoy so i waited untill dark then attacked...Fireing 1-4 Torpedos....then the escorst seen me all hell breaks lose...Alarm and crash Dive...i hear the torps hit so theres some comfort there but now its pay up time..the hunt lasts for 2 hours...this is the longest iv ever been hunted now im taking damage the last look was hull 67% damage then more trouble another destroyer joins the hunt..another drop of depth charges on my sub starts going down by the bow...big time i get my crew working to stop leaks i slam the Engines into reverse....but shes still going down...120---125--130...i order blow ballast once-twice three times ...then to my amazement i slow down then to all my crew happy we start for the surface i get to 80meters i stop engines i check damage its bad but the flooding is under control...i think i can do this and we all be drunk back at port...i check again 70 meters cool..then it happens the death screen came up saying all was dead....oh no....i got the GW mode should i have survied?

No, the damage to the hull continues to weaken it so this has and will continue to happen. You may also have been hit again but the red screen came on at the very moment so you never heard it.
I have tweaked my GW so the depth charges have less effect but the DDs have a better chance of finding and staying with you. Less damage per hit, more hits. This allows more time for the same damage so allows more repair. Once the boat passes 50% Hull integerity you can not be very deep and any time you are you contine to come closer to death.

I had a similar experience with RuB. Got under attack by the enemy DD´s, boat had some flooding and it went all the way to 230m. I blowed most of my compressed air out and the boat started to rise. That´s one of the best moments I´ve had playing SHIII.

The other possibility is your structure went so low, that as you were coming up you were still below crush depth for the sub's Structural integrity value and taking structure damage all the way up untill you ran out at 70.
