If you are french reader/speaking take a look here

It was compiled for sub command but the tma chapter (the clearest and easiest explanation i've yet seen) applies 100% to dangerous Waters. You can download also the video tutorial titled : TMA - An accurate solution. |

It think the most important thing is just understanding the relationship between the relative speed of the target across the line of bearing, the bearing rate, and the range. Everything sort of falls out of that. It's highschool geometry or physics, really.
If you sit at your sonar screen, you're in a reference frame in which you are stationary and the world moves around you. The only thing telling you that you're moving is the speed indicator at the corner of the screen. Ignore it. Eventually you'll be able to look at the sonar screen, and have a pretty good idea of how far away a target is pretty quickly. Quote:

Just one thing .. do not train TMA in FFG. Do so in sub, Kilo preferably (no TA, circle sonars, easy TMA interface).

You can use towed aray to detect target bearing and go active or send Helo to get precise location. Even in sub, situation awareness is build from sonars alone. TMA is mostly for attacking purposes from what I've heard. Correct me somebody if I'm wrong. Last edited by Dr.Sid; 10-05-06 at 05:04 AM. |
