Just got my cable broadband hooked. 3meg download. Now not sure if my comp or a thing with rapidshare but I can still only DL stuff from rapidshare at about 40kps.
If its a rapid share thing.. fine. If its my comp, any suggestions? Brand new motorola cable modem. Win XP P4 2.4 g 1g DDR 200g Hard Drive Im using a reletivaly old ethernet card however. Some generic thing I bought about 6 years ago. |

Well we all know Rapidshare is sh**.Probably that's what wrong
![]() Your computer doesn't really have anything to do with download speed. The old card as long as it has some good drivers shoudn't be a problem. But those 3megs-is that "real" download speed (what you get,or should get at the actual download) or the internet traffic speed? If it's your traffic speed, you should be geting about...300 kb/s download speed about average. What about other downloads-do they work?

That 3 meg is the "UP TOO" advertised speed which may not be the actual speed.

If you're concerned about your bandwidth, go to http://www.dslreports.com/stest and test it, and compare it to what your ISP says it should be. If it's markedly (say 30-40%) lower, contact your ISP tech support; if not, it's Rapidshare, and nothing can be done, except maybe waiting for non-peak hours.

Yea you should try a bandwith test and see if the ISP isn't screwing you. That happened to me -i was supposed to have 512kb speed but I did a bandwith test and saw that I have 256 .I phoned them and 1 month later (NOW) they still haven't done anything...but I'm going next week to upgrade to 1.5 mb guaranteed speed .I'm gonna pay them a lot of money for that hope the bastards make it work.Too bad their building isn't on a ship -would've had a lot of pleasure after sinking them with the deck-gun so they could suffer and scream in terror while they sink

Well, I got my problem solved. Only took 2 calls to the ISP and 1 to microsoft. Seems after all the run around my dumbass cable company put me in for the 256k package instead of the 3meg one but were charging me for the 3 meg service.
![]() Idiots!!! Im fast now tho ![]() |
