Default What passes as comedy?

I guess this does. Let's see some more caricatures of Muhamed. And see how many folks die. The religion of peace be upon you.

Oh you cry babies. Did you actually read all the way to the end of the article? it's not supposed to be a stupid "haha people died" skit. It's a satirical parody of news coverage in this time and makes you think about whats real. In this time, especially in Britain, you'd think that was somewhat necessary. besides free speech and all eh?

If they made a parody of Pearl Harbor, how much more do you think people would jump on it? Or the Holocaust? Neither of these things are funny, and they should be left alone. A stain in the pages of human history.

I assume you're referring to Islam?

If that's the case, please tell me the reason for your branding of the religion. I'm reading.

Terrorism? Nope. If so, you'd be grouping Christianity in there with them.
Hatred? Nah, never saw you type anything on Catholics prosecuting gays.
Overdue Traditions? Where's your piece on Americans fighting breast-feeding?

Quit the double-standards. If you need something to strike at, buy a punching bag.

I pretty much agree with you on that one, actually.

And I feel the same way about action-versions of the same (like the Hollywood-style book 102 minutes, about 9/11).

But then again, I'm sitting here eagerly awaiting the release of Silent Hunter IV, so what can I really say?

Life is a paradox...what can I say?

I guess since we've all acclimated ourselves as kids to the like of Medal of Honor etc. That we don't think too much of the same now. It's more that Western eyes have made death into a childs' game. And even I'm guilty of that too.

You assume correctly Safe-Keeper.

I was only hoping that you and your loved ones would have the grace and blessings of the religion of peace upon you.

What passes as comedy?

Quote:
sometimes they'll say, well you can talk about something but you can't joke about it. Say you can't joke about something because it's not funny. Comedians run into that **** all the time. Like rape. They'll say, "you can't joke about rape. Rape's not funny." I say, "**** you, I think it's hilarious. How do you like that?"

I can prove to you that rape is funny. Picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd. See, hey why do you think they call him "Porky," eh? I know what you're going to say. "Elmer was asking for it. Elmer was coming on to Porky. Porky couldn't help himself, he got a hard- on, he got horney, he lost control, he went out of his mind." A lot of men talk like that. A lot of men think that way. They think it's the woman's fault. They like to blame the rape on the woman. Say, "she had it coming, she was wearing a short skirt." These guys think women ought to go to prison for being cock teasers. Don't seem fair to me. Don't seem right, but you can joke about it.

I believe you can joke about anything. It all depends on how you construct the joke. What the exaggeration is. What the exaggeration is. Because every joke needs one exaggeration. Every joke needs one thing to be way out of proportion. Give you an example. Did you ever see a news story like this in the paper? Every now and then you run into a story, says, "some guy broke into a house, stole a lot of things, and while he was in there, he raped an 81 year old woman." And I'm thinking to myself, "WHY??? What the **** kind of a social life does this guy have?" I want to say, "why did you do that?" "Well she was coming on to me. We were dancing and I got horney. Hey, she was asking for it, she had on a tight bathrobe." I'll say, "Jesus Christ, be a little ****ing selective next time will you?"

I don't watch rubbish like that but what makes it worst I have to pay for that rubbish. I am thinking of not paying my licence fee to those fat pigs at the BBC. And so much for this Labour Government threatening the BBC with action, more wind from Blair yet again.

meh, you gotta be able to laugh... otherwise the only other option is blubbing
I was quite looking forward to Time Trumpet in a sort of odball way- the 'girl with the voice of Borris Johnson' tickled my funnybone
Humour is very subjective anyway - for some people - I, on the other hand am much less descriminating, or perhaps that should be 'that jumpy, he'll laugh at anything'.
Don't matter to me if it's in bad taste or not, not especially anyway.

Free speech means FREE SPEECH, even for stuff that offends. The government has no business dictating stuff like that!!!

Comedy and criticism is allowed. Just make sure that it is politically correct comedy and criticism, and that it does not interfere with the government's or Islam's future intentions.

do you remember 'CAKE!' ?

Ah, classic programing, along with 'The Day Today' - I think it was.
My grandfather (when he was alive) used to watch many news and current affairs programs eg. newsnight, panorama etc. and when he saw TDT he mistook it for a serious news program, thinking some of it was a 'bit strange..' but none the less worthy of his attention. The penny had droped by the time the next program was scheduled - he was furious at the 'bloody stupid dross on the television today' though I suspect he was more annoyed at being duped into mistaking it for a genuine news program, being a 'man of the world' as he saw himself, hehe
