This is why I don't support Capital Punishment

I only support Capital punishment when the evidence is beyond all possible doubt and the prosectuion does as little as possible. (By this I mean the really sick ppl like serial killers and pedophiles etc.)

But that's just me.

I disagree. An eye for an eye. Makes people think twice, such as the husband thinking about murdering his wife or vice versa, before they commit to something.

Problem is, if you are going to put someone on death row, you better damn well be sure it is the right guy. Problem is, some of these guys are not getting what I would call a fair trial and being sent up their because they couldn't a good lawyer. And then there is the problem of the rich buying their way out, but thats a whole other story. We need to fix a few things I think. Just my opinion.

-S

PS. One more thought - If you are going to send someone up there, and DNA can be used or disprove something, it should be a mandatory test. I think prosecutors get tired and just want a case closed, even at the expense of a mans life, just to show the public that its taken care of.

The way i see it, the death penalty has never stopped murders, even in countries with no appeal and instant execution of sentence. This is because people rarely commit such crimes with the expectation they'll be caught.

If criminal penalties have any effect at all then the prospect of spending the rest of ones life in the hell called prison is as much if not more of a deterrent.

Again I disagree. You can find results that show both persepctives as being effective or ineffective. Deterrant is easily proved however if you look at laws from harsher countries. Take the Middle East - Saidi Arabia - for example, no one steals anything there - ever. Why? Penalty is to remove ones hand. Fast forward to England where there is little punishment and crime runs rampant - their statistics are displayed as a comparrison by our own FBI.

Anyone who knowingly commits a crime always considers the reprocussions. I don't buy the argument of thinking that they won't get caught. They probably analyze and weigh the risks.
