Default Problem with GW mod ...

I posted this in the stickied thread but thought It might get more attention in a seperate thread.

Where does one go for support on the GW mod.

I installed it once and it ran fine but I decided I dident like a few of the "features" did a complete un-install of SH3 deleted the residual folders.

Did a new install of SH3 and made sure it ran okay.
Patched up and made sure it ran okay.
Installed GW and now it hangs up at the loading screen and gives an error message "Menu ID not found at :................." and it gives some hexidicimal address.

In my experience this happens with any of the supermods since RuB if the game hasn't been patched to 1.4b... Or there are files missing from your GW.

If everything is present this shouldn't happen.

Default id not found

The error is in the data\menu\menu 1064_768.ini file. There is a mismatch with this file and one of your mods.
Somehow this file is looking for something and can't find it.
It must be corrupted if you didn't do anything else than what you stated as a fresh install of SHIII+1.4b patch and GW 1.1a install should work.

Yes, usually caused by conflicting mods.

When you re-installed SH3, did you install it to a location where you had previously installed SH3? If so, did you remember to MANUALLY delete the residual files left after you last uninstalled SH3?

One of the biggest causes of CTDS and other game errors is re-installing SH3 over residual files left from a previous SH3 installation. Removing SH3 via "Add/Remove Programs" does not remove all SH3 files - it only removes files installed as part of SH3 v1.0. New files added as part of the v1.4b patch or by any mod are not removed, thus remain to cause problems with the new installation if not manually deleted.

Another common cause is not rolling back SH3Cmdr, or not disabling all installed mods via JSGME, before uninstalling and reinstalling SH3.

And another cause is installing mods whilst mid-patrol.

These may not be the cause of your problem, but the tips may help others.

I wonder if I applied the wrong patch ?! I might have put the latest in some strange location and applying a previous patch.

I cant tell what version the current install is because the game freezes on the loading screen... Sigh.

Thanks for your help Ill look into it closer tonight.

Open the sh3 folder and right click on sh3.exe and select properties, click on the version tab, ther you can see the program version without starting it ( it should be 1.4.0.1)

Sigh... I tried to un-install / re-install again.

Made sure the residual folders were deleted, including those found in my documents.

Now I cannot apply the patch 1.4b-us-dvd it reports an "unrecogognized version".

I am quite certain I have the correct version.

Are you trying to apply the patch straight after reinstall ?
Thats the correct way to do it
If you change anything in the SilentHunterIII folder before applying the patch it wont recognise the change and you will get a message similair to the one you got

Yes.

I installed, made sure it ran okay, made no modifications to the install, went to install the patch 1.04b-us-dvd and no joy.

Well the simplest and quickest option would be to try one of the other patches

I tried some of the other patches just to check.

Tried the us dl version, tried the eu dvd version.

All report "unrecoknized version".

Could this be a registry issue due to the fact that Ive un-installed / re-installed at least 4 times now in two different locations.

:hmm: yes it could well be that
Not too experienced with the registry as far as editing so wont suggest anything
No doubt someone will be along soon with an answer tho

Just to bring closure to this thread.

It turned out to be a registry issue.

Backup files first and create a system restore point just in case

Un-install SH3

Go through the registry using regedit and searching for keyword "silent hunter" and deleting any and all items found.

Re-install SH3 and apply the proper patch. Run the game and enter your key code (note if it does not ask for the key code you did not get all the registry entrys).

Exit the game and then you may apply any mods you desire.

Beware of using "Ubisoft" as the keyword search if your like me and have more than one Ubi product on your machine.

Also if you have an install for Silent Hunter 2 for some reason take care to not delete those keys.
