Default New to SHIII - out of the box question

Just got SHIII. Is there a proscribed patch order? Should I apply all official UBI patches and then go for the Grey Wolves Superpatch or are they incompatible?

Also - I've read the manual but still don't know if multiplayer means each human commands a different U-boat or whether I can team up with friends by manning different stations within the same boat?

Thanks for any answers....

Hi and welcome

First off you will need to install the UBI 1.4b patch
Then you can upgrade to GW
May I also suggest SH3commander as a great additional program
Other great additions that will enhance your play is SH3Gen and SH3 weather IMHO

Multiplayer means you control your own subs
You can create your own games and password them so only your friends can join and play along with you

Have fun - you will enjoy the game with GW but may I suggest if you are going to do the Academy then I would wait until you have been thru that before you install Grey Wolves

Hope that helps

Hi there! Grey Wolves is not a patch, but a mod. It changes the game in many ways. (To the better IMO)

Download latest patch for SH3, thats all the patching you need.

Welcome Udi,

First, patch with official UBI patch - there is only one, make sure you download the correct one from their site - then you may install the mods of your choice. Before installing Grey Wolves mod you might want to consider running the Ubi patched vanilla game until you get a bit of a feel for it, but that is entirely your choice.

As far as I am aware, multiplayer means online gaming with other SH3 owners.

Also NYGM Tonnage war is a superb mod. It's the one I run. You owe it to yourself to check them both out before you commit to one. Although, based on feedback I have seen on both mods, I don't think you can go wrong.

A word of warning. Both mods increase the realism quite a bit. Be sure you are getting bored with the vannilla patched game (do a career that way, or at least several patrols) before you add a mod that will make the game a lot harder.
