Default Resolution override....

I am trying to get SH3 to work with these instructions http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...lay_Resolution and cannot get it to work. I get the splash screens, then I just get a black screen and have to end task. Running XP SP2, amd 3800+ and ati 1900xtx. Any help appreciated.

I'll tell you exactly what I did... I downloaded the toolkit first. Then I ran the compatibility administrator. New database is highlighted, I click 'Fix.' I type in'SH3' in the name of program field and specify the path where sh3.exe is located. I choose 'none' for op systems modes. Then I check DelayDLLInit, click 'parameters' and type in d3d9.dll for command line. Then I click 'test run' and get the splash screens, then a black screen. ctrl alt dlt and Silent Hunter 3 is not responding.. I followed every detail exactly, dunno why it's not working for me.

do you have the d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg files in your sh3 root directory?

you've done everything correctly according to post #3. the cfg file is default at 1024x768 and i would think you are already running that resolution. have you tried NOT hitting the test button and just finishing the setup? it would probably do the same but who knows? check the cfg file for something strange. i have .net framework 2.0 and microsoft application compatablility toolkit 4.1 and the setup went easy. don't give up - high res really looks good in game. wish i could help more. EDIT: testing for paragraphs EDIT AGAIN:wazzup?

I tried continuing with out testing/saving/installing the compatibility mod. Same thing, unfortunately . It's really a shame. I tried downloading the dll from two different sources and get the same problem. Maybe a directx prob? Maybe I should reinstall it.

Just ran another test.. I ;'d every line in the cfg file out except for the x and y res and I get the same thing. Also I reinstalled directx. Any ideas?

edit: I'm also running 2.0 net framework and 4.1 compat toolkit.

i know there are 2 versions of .net, one for xp64 (-64) and the (-86) for xp.

maybe ati related? i have nvidia so i don't know if you might need to do something extra...driver update???

I have nVidia myself, so ... any ATI-guys got it working?

Same here except on Nvida 6600. I did everything as instructed several times and finally gave up very frustrated.

So I'm not alone.... what are your system specs? Maybe we can narrow this down and find the problem.
