Gentlemen,
currently training in NYGM2, and becoming very worried about everything I hear about the AI escorts. Ok, so I have to stay at 1 knot when silent running to stand a chance, but I find it quite difficult to adjust the speed precisely on the 'knot' telegraph, and I'm sure this will be even harder under pressure. Solution: adjust the 'slow ahead' telegraph setting so that it gives me 1 knot. If you are as inaccurate as me at setting speed in a hurry you need to tweak the 'cfg' file for each sub: Every sub has 'AheadSlow' = 0.4 (percent of full speed) - change this to the following: IIA & VIIC = 0.14 IID, IXB &IXC = 0.13 VIIB = 0.12 IXD2 = 0.14 Don't forget to back up your files first. Obviously this also affects surface speeds, so you will have to adjust the 'slow' speed manually at sea as required. For example, 'slow ahead' for the VIIC is 6-7 knots, with this adjustment it will be 2.4 knots. Last edited by clive bradbury; 07-07-06 at 10:16 AM. |

Thanks very much for this - I've made the alteration in all of my boat folders as I always felt the speed was too fast when using telegraph at "ahead slow".
One thing I noticed when doing the edits, above the engine speed data is a load of depth data including the "crash dive" figures. This line reads: CrashDepth=XX;meters in most of the different sub files, but in a few the semi-colon and meters is missing from the line. Could some kind soul tell me why this should be, please? Also, if I change that figure from say "70" to "40", would my u-boat safely level out after crash diving to 40 metres? (OT - Before I got SH3 and discovered www.subsim.com I was absolutely petrified about opening up any folders which had "program stuff" inside them. I used to think my computer would blow up if I mucked anything up! ![]() Henry |

You are right, Henry. You can change the crash dive depth to whatever you like.
