Default deck guns

Type IIa U-boats didn't have deck guns. Save up your renown and get a type VIIB or VIIC. There is a mod that will add a battleship's gun turret to any sub, however.

In stock SH3 the Type IIA doesn't get its 20mm flak gun on the foredeck unless you select it as an upgrade.

I think this is what he is referring to.

Battleship turret ? ....wouldn't that make a sub flip over ? I think it weighed half of the sub's weight

Default guns

i don't have the reference for the guns, but I remember seeing a thread with the picture and the mod. Of course, in RL the sub would tip over and probably sink with a battleship turret.

Ok, first off. There is not enough room on the front of a Type II sub to even FIT a DG (be it an 88mm or the 105mm) because it will be cliped by the conning tower. Second, the compartment (Crew maning gun is a compartment) is not BIG enough to even get the DG to work (you need 3 crewman on a DG, the flack gun on a TypeII only has 1 crewman), so even if you do change it, the gun will never fire, sorry. Now even if you change the compartment to fit the crew, you may not have enough room on the sub to fit the extra crewman required to man the gun (I dont use the TypeII so not sure on that 1). Then after ALL that the DG wont have the correct AMMO, because the NODE is for a 20mm Flack and there for you will only have AP rounds and you wont have the correct amount.

Now given all of the above, do you really think its worth all the effort ?

it is not the problem of worth or not.
I'm here to post because I just want to learn how to create my own mod.

May be my ideas violate the history, IIAs do not have deck guns, but i just try to post here to ask how.

Actually it's more like twice the sub's weight. Bismarck's turrets weighed around 1500 tons each, and an Iowa class turret was load-rated at 4 million pounds; that 2000 tons.

If the sub didn't flip over it would sink to the bottom upright very quickly.

perhaps you could add a 3,7
would make a good compromise and after that you can easily increase the 3,7 ammo´s power...

Edit
Here´s a link for you alamwuk2a
http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=41978

at least you can make the game show up the model...

Here is the non-picture related text from the main post.

- Change the entry

Dummy2=37mmM_UFlak_High

- to

Dummy2=88mm_UDeck_Gun_High

Start the game, buy the 37mm Gun and you have the two guns.
You can also change the other heavy AA-guns to deckguns, i think even the light AA-guns can be replaced...

have fun

To make a more serious boat with two deck guns, like the Type XI (?), much more work has to be done.... But you can change the ammo amount in basic.cfg for the 37mm Flak gun to more realistic values.

This topic is interesting...perhaps I could (finally!) be able to add the 37mm heavy flak to the bridge of the IXC and IXD2 (as it was historically, at least for the IX D2).
