Default Too scared to try: Set the boat down on the sea floor?

Has anyone ever tried to set your sub on the sea floor in this sim?

Heck I'm not even sure it's possible, but I was thinking it would be pretty cool...

Say your surfaced and take a sounding at get 50 m deep ... (wow right on huh)

Anyway can you dive to say 49 meters level off, then dive slowly and "set her down easy" on the bottom?

I think I got this idea from an older WWII movie, I can't remember hardly anything from it, but I do remember it was about an American sub that sneaks into a harbor past some anti-sub nets by going along with a surface ship right under him....

SO, I guess there are two questions on the table, 1) can you "set her down" and 2) What the heck is the name of that movie?

Yes, you can do it; and if you stop first you shouldn't take any damage. The bad news is it doesn't work. In real like sitting on a shallow bottom makes you impossible to hear and difficult to ping. Also, the sand absorbs the shock of the depth charges. More than one boat reported surviving hours of beatings by that trick. Unfortunately the game doesn't work that way; they'll find you and kill you.

DANGIT!

I smell a cool mod, thought I doubt it's possible in a mod. That would probably involve changing raw game code itself.

Oh well, Guess I'll just have to turn tail and run

good thing though is if you get nearly blown to pieces you dont have to worry about being blown to pieces by pressure... as much

I do it frequently, but it doesn't help a lot in shaking the DD's.

I've done it by accident! Messed up the back end of my sub.

I have done it, not by purpose,

I was in an harbour nearby Italy, (not know the name of it) and I sank 1 V&W Destroyer and an Hunter 1 Destroyer in 1941. on an really lucky Torpedo salvo launch....I Fired in an sort of V formation and the boats passed eachother and 100 meters further both impacts after eachother....after that 2 flower corvettes where hunting me and I ran 2 meters from the bottom of the sea floor...1 DC striked my Bow Torpedo room causing an flood..and that pulled me down on the sea floor and I stopped the boat immediatly , my hull degrated to 78%, the Flower kept DC me , and kept going on till my hull had 29% left and most of my stuff in my ship got damaged or destroyed......when I saw my chance I got away with 1 knot 3 meters from the ocean floor, and Got me Home......

Almost home, about 100 km from my harbour I got an airplane that gave the final blow

If you have NYGM mod with the anti hummingbirmod on it is quite simple. Stop your Uboat and let it sink slowly it will eventually settle in the seafloor without damage...always remember to check that it is not too deep

Shame that trick doesn't work in stock game, I believe it worked in CAOD.

Kind regards,

I believe Destination Tokyo is the name of the movie you're looking for.

Yes, but you always stood the risk of getting stuck in the mud, depending on what the seafloor was like!

Absolutely right, I had to do that more than once, and it worked almost any time, even the getting stuck in the mud thing was in.

I don't recall getting stuck in the mud, though I did experience some trouble in regaining control once it had been set down. Going Ahead Flank while blowing ballast would probably have done it.

Kind regards,
