I've a feeling this may turn out to be a miserable thread for England supporters.
Ecuador are not the rabbits that we've been brainwashed to believe. They're playing well ( discount the Germany result where they rested five players), they're not under pressure and recent results include victories over Brazil and Argentina. England on the other hand have been playing dysfunctionally, are under the incredible pressure of expectation, have a manager on death row who is now the laughing stock of the English press ( and not just the tabloids), have lost their most consistent goal scorer to injury, and are relying on their star player to do the work of two men despite the fact that he has recently returned from a serious injury ........ it's also going to be very hot ....... on the other hand the reshaped England formation may unexpectedly come good, be spurred on by four thrilling goals from their talented attacking midfielders and go on to be the darlings of the competition, dazzling everybody with the talents that we are constantly told they have in abundance. My tactical tip of the day to Ecuador : don't score an early goal. This is just the scenario that might upset England's current comatose state and give them time to do something about it. Either let England score first and watch their natural stupor take over, or score late in the game when England are totally frustrated and unable to get over the shock that they are going to lose. ![]() |
