Default Am I mad at myself???

On patrol in AM54. Got word of a "Large Neutral Convoy", only 8 hours away. Thought I might check it out, just to see how "Neutral" it really was.
Now, I've some really lousy weather up until know, but as I neared my intercept point, it cleared up. Fine, a chance to load the external torps in. And so I did, but as my crew was just finishing the last: "Schiff Gesichtet" - and then I couldn't get the keyboard to work - apparently the loadout screen was interferring with the "what to do screen". End result, I was spotted and had to get out of Dodge. No a problem, but it does mean I'll have to got around AND get into low water to get that convoy... Which is NOT neutral except for 2 norwegian tramp steamer. I've seen a pyro, several big cargo, tankers and - tadaaa: A revenge class battlewagon. So I'll do my end around, and see what I can do with 4 fish!

I also got a report of a neutral convoy. I burned about 8 hours worth of fuel on an intercept course because I wanted to see how neutral it was, only to find out that it's zig zagged (I guess convoys do that now in GWX), so it really pains me to hear that there's some juicy ships in it.

According to the last contact report, that same convoy has zigged or zagged again and now it's 18 hours away. But I'll be damned if I waste any more fuel chasing that silly thing.

just fire a salvo of 4 eels set for magnetic detonation at 9-10 meters
and you will get a kill or 2

Yeah, I wish...

An update: Well I got to the front of the convoy, only to find out it had changed course. I kinda thought it might, since a convoy of that size probably wasn't destinied for the Hebrides... In front again, and I snuck in behind the lead Corvette. It was pitch black, so I had to trust my faithful WO to do the shooting... But what to shoot? I had only 3 fish in the bow, probably not enough to sink the Revenge, and I was in a lousy position to do that anyway. Instead I chose to send 2 fish after the first tanker, 1 after the next, then hope I could turn fast enough to send my second to last fish from the stern after #2 tanker. I hit the first tanker with only 1, they must still be zigging. I missed #2 completely, but did get the stern shot off - exploded prematurely. And, of course, I had woken up the escort

So the next 2 hours I spent dodging Wasserbomben, Herr Kaleun, all of the time trying to guess the depth of the water. Finally they gave up, but while I listened to them withdrawing, I heard the "scream" of a wounded ship. So I marked out the bearing, surfaced and went to have a look-see. And sure enough, there was the tanker, dead in the water, but with no intention of sinking. My last fish changed that, so now it's RTB.

But such a large convoy, and 1 measly tanker *sigh*. Still I did get to try escort evasion in GWX - quite a lesson

Haha, no - of course you are right. But I keep thinking that MAYBE I should tried for the Revenge anyway. On the other hand, I would *REALLY* hate to spend all my fish on a monster like that - only to see stying afloat. Of course, I might then try to surface and do a shoot-out
