Default ... And now i get it...

Blowing up escorts with the 88mm is much easier than fighting them submerged... Has anyone tried to do this. A lovely convoy, with 5 torps left, 2 of them being the new T Ves acoustic torp, and a lot of cannon rounds...

pretty interesting: Flower corvettes blow up after 4/5 shots, and a Black swan isn't that much harder.

I play at 54%, should it be this easy?

Vanilla + 1.4b patch + Grey Wolves + GW 1.1 update

Cheers all,
Garrincha

No, it shouldn't. In real life one hit from a corvette's deck gun renders a u-boat no longer a u-boat. No one would ever have tried to do that.

Surface attack a Flower Corvette.

Tactics?

I am curiuous as to how you go about that without taking a lot of damage in return.

Default U333

Ali Cremer in U333 had a surface fight with a corvette and survived, but his boat became known as Ali's wreck.

In the game they are terrible shots at long ranges, so if you have a good gunner, or gun yourself, you can inflict serious damage before they get close

I man the deck gun myself, hit flank and fire away Iv'e never seen a Flower corvette do more than 15knts on surfacea u-boat can do about 19 so if there's some distance between you and him you can inflict some damage, I'd wouldn't let my deck gun crew take on a corvette because there hit rate is something like 1in3 and use those crummy AP shells which i consider totally useless.

I've occasionally gunned at a corvette/destroyer to get their attention (when they hadn't seen me). Then once they start charging in I'd dive and give em a torp in the face.

Dicey tactic once they start maneuvering on the way in! Have to wait til they're < 600m so they dont have time to dodge, which is a little too close if you miss....

Easy for the dumb ones that bore straight in tho...

Dicey tactic but one that worked well for me playing silent Hunter ! and before that Silent Service.......Plus if you watched the film with the jap destroyer called "Bungo Pete" (My memory is crap) isn't this the tactic that the American captain used to finish of Ole' Bungo ???? True story as well I believe......

Deep Six

"Run Silent Run Deep" (1958)? Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster

I cannot remember if that is the film or not. I loved watching that movie when I was a kid.

Why even bother with the escorts? Their tonnage blows and they're lightweight on renown. Your ordnance should go to tankers Kaleun. Unless of course there's only say one or two guarding a convoy. But that's rare. This is a happy time for you, enjoy the wind and smoke, you will know in time.
