Default Bagged my first carrier :)

Playing GW I find convoys far apart, but messages frequent

So I was rather keen when a taskforces was reported heading in my direction.

Clear weather (damn) and a ton of destroyers! In the middle a big fat target.

Moved in ahead and submerged ready to shoot.
Distance no more than 600m.

I damn near missed because the carrier spotted my torpedoes!! Why did I bring steam torpedoes anyway?!?!

Well anyway, 3 hits and shes a goner.

Only 1 destroyer seemed to care and dropped some spreads, but not close enough to do anything.

However is it normal to be able to sink a carrier and this is the only repraisel you get? One...only one destroyer! :hmm:

I tryd that to (with GW 1.1) it's the Taskforce which coms from Gibraltar and goes up to Ireland.

I did put myself in position for the Carrier but was spotet by DD's and it was early 1940 and no they where no dummys, one waiting and 1 makes a run and vice versa for a long time till i realy had no chance anymore to get near that Carrier.

Actully the DDs didnt detect me untill I hit the carrier.
The tactic with one keeping an eye and the other attacking is know as the "Hunter-killer" method/tactic

I know that LOL (experiensed it to many times )

They got me because i was to eager to sink that Carrier so i rised my Prei to early and that's probably when they spoted me, it was also the first time I did encounter Swordfishes launched from the Carrier, as i was to far away from the nearest Base.

Excellent Job, Herr Kaleun!

That was a really nice spread you shot there...

And before I forget, I finally got my copy last week, and I'm in the middle of my first patrol and so far this new Kaleun has bagged a British C3 with two torpedoes (broke his back and he sunk in 15 minutes or so), a British small merchant with the deck gun, a C-class destroyer with one torpedo (he was bugging me while I was roaming around, so I got tired of it and put the torp in my stern tube down his throat), and I just got done sinking a Polish coastal merchant (call me stupid, but Onkel Karl wants EVERYTHING, no?). And btw, this is '39 with a VIIB out of Kiel. I think I'm going to go take a look over by the NE coast of England...that's where my patrol grid is anyway. LOL

Often Task forces move so fast that they can't hear you - i moved into a 30kt task force at PD, flank turns and they didn't smell a thing...

Nice Kill - next time try to spread the shots out a bit more.

They have the Essex class carriers in GW? As far as I know they were all sent to the Pacific to beat up on the Imperial Japanese Navy. About the only time they spent in the Atlantic was either on workup or heading for the Panama Canal.
