Default crush depth / DD evasion concept ive been tinkering with

I'll just state what it does, and tell me what you think.

I have slowed down the crush rate so that going below crush depth, SLOWLY, VERY SLOWLY reduces hull integrity. I'd say 1% every 1 or 2 mins. ( i havent timed it yet honestly)

So if your boats crush depth is say, 247 meters, you can bring it even deeper. Maybe even down to 300 meters, although i havent trried that deep, and stay there for 5-10 mins. (i havent timed yet)

But going that deep is limited in time span.

The deeper you go the more you slowly leak in water, you have to up the E motor a little to maintain depth.

Now how H.I works is, if your a certain percentage, you can only go so deep. So by pushing the extremes, you'd only be able to do this once or twice a patrol as your crush depth will become progressivly shallower. This would seem to mimic some stories i have read where a fairly new boat could go alot deeper, but the more the hull is stressed, the less it could withstand.

To that end, i have ramped up hedge hog damage, but left depth charge damage alone. The thing is, if your that deep, a slow crush depth doesnt matter when your H.I gets that low. A HH might not have killed, but a DC still would i think. I highly doubt youd make it to the surface if hit by a depth charge. So the slow crush, as so far in my testing, doesnt make every hit suriviveable.

I also, made the maximum depth of active sonar, 275 meters. So if your are catching hell, you can go deeper to get under their active sonar. However passive still works that deep so they can still hear you. In theory , it could give you the 5 mins you need to escape an elite HK group. BUT, you'd have to play it quiet at the same time because they can still hear you. A tightrope walk when you consider the steady crush and the boat getting heavier. An intresting varient of this is that depth charges do not go below 300 meters. I personally wouldnt push my boat that deep with a 240 meter crush depth, but i think its possible.

The atmosphere it provides in the command room is fantastic BTW.

Thoughts?

Hi Ducimus,

We did something similar in GW/reduced rate of crush damage accumulation... and you are correct!

It is very cool in the command room!

Bah, see, this is one reason i dont release anything i mod. I always feel that no matter what it is, somebody's already done the same thing.

I have yet to use IUB, RUB, or GW. Ive been slowly modding my game (*cough* reinventing the wheel) bit by bit over the last year.

Addicting though isn't it?

Yeah, everytime i do a patrol im thinking

"Ok, theres something i gotta fix".

On my agenda right now is

1.) Fix the weather variable on the 16KM scene.dat file. Gonna compare it to stock and put the cloud/rain back to stock. 30 days of clear skies just doesnt do it for me.

2.) UC RND layer, 43 and 44 year entries. 8% spawn sucks, but so does tons of ships. I dont need tankers falling from the sky like they do in 42. My solutions going to be to take those 8% spawns, and make mini convoys out of them. 3 ships, with 2 elite DE's .

3.) i forgot what 3 was.. but its on the tip of my tongue .. Oh ya, i was thinking about bringing the visuals in the sensor.dat to say...... 10KM with an 8KM accuracy range. Lookouts RARELY spot planes with 8K, they never do with 6K and the ALWAYS do with 16K, but radar like lookouts is too much. Removes the challenge.

My wheels are always turning  You should see what i did to hedge hogs. High unlrealsitc, but damn fun
