A gem from U-Boat Commander's Handbook

I don't know if anyone has taken the time to draw this out, so here's an attempt to show one of the neat concepts in the "Cmdr's Handbook".

On page 50 of my copy it says,

"The following rule of thumb serves to determine, in good time, the distance of the submarine when about to launch the attack (torpedo) abreast of the enemy.

In position 5°, the lateral distance from the enemy = 1/10, in position 10° = 1/5, in position 15° = 1/4, in position 20° = 1/3, in position 30° = 1/2 of the momentary distance."

...so as they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words...

Hi Rosencrantz...yup. There used to be one over at WaW; but, all it shows there now is the chapter titles...guess something about copywright...donno.

Heck, I think they're still on sale for about $8.00, however. (that's cheap if even it was twice the price )
