Default U boat footage

Check this video out. The only bit i understood was the bit about Endrass and tonnage at the end. the last shot of the destroyer bearing down on them through the periscope is amazing.

i cant believe a captain actually stayed at periscope long enough to let the reporter get his camera, take the pic, etc. Or do periscopes have built in camera like some aeroplanes guns?

That was great footage thanks con20or,

I just used it to make a point about the games special effects regarding deck gun and the damage it can cause.

I was considering adding small splinter explosions for every shell hit on a boat, as a special effect 1 and then add fire etc as special effect 2.

Some people will know that you can add 2 special effects to each compartment so this visual is possible.

I was then thinking about adding ammo etc as cargo on deck surface objects so the special effects do actually cause ingame damage on not just eycandy.

I could do with some more footage ??????????

Please post what you have

Nice find!

You can clearly see how they made the deck-gun look over-powered. To bad those old propagande movies are far from the real thing!

Thats part of a Wochenschau propaganda-movie. The beginning and end is missing, the whole thing is almost eight minutes. I have it on my HD.

Edit:
I took the liberty to make this a little excercise for me. I just subtiltled the the film in english. If you are interested in watching it, just tell me where i can upload it to

Interesting stuff, Voodoo Priest, great work. Gotta love the "Engelandslied" at the end.
I have a very bad VHS copy of "Hell Below", a Hollywood flick about R-boats made in 1933 (was on Turner Classic Movies several months back).
Some great interior shots for those interested in the historical aspects of the R-boats.

Yours, Mike

Brilliant!!! WOW.

I wonder if the depth charge footage was real or staged. the crew looked a bit too calm and "stiff upper lip" about the whole thing.

Thanks for the video and translation

I'm fairly certain parts of it are staged, depth-charging included. That said, it doesn't take away from its interest!
