Default radar upgrade on my type VIIC.....

I recently added the radar array on the front of the conning tower....I am wondering where any contacts are supposed to show up.....I only use the single sweep to prevent giving my position away...but cannot figure out where to look for any contacts.....I have even tried the map mode when a known contact was there....but nothing showed up......am I missing something...?

Bear in mind that the first radar sets covered an arc of 10%-20% in front of your boat, so sometimes doing a full circle @ ahead slow with your u-boat is required. Very handy in deep fog.

The radar should pick a target at about 10 - 15 kms, depending on your sonarman's skills. If you make only a single sweep, you must be very lucky to catch something.

Be careful though....You are not the only one with radar out there.

I once tried to find a contact with radar in foggy conditions and suddenly had a destroyer bearing down on my boat trying to ram me. Actually an amazing sight while standing on the bridge yourself.

The worst thing was, my watch didn't even report him so without being damaged and after he had disappeared into the fog again my crew on watch were looking at me like '' Where did who go ? '' You crazy nutter...

So is it the sonar man that reports the targets? Or do they just show up on the map?........

You get a report that there's a radar contact, and it also appears on the map. Handy in heavy fog against single i.e. unescorted ships, but shouldn't really be used any other time. Unless you want to die that is

I see.....yes...I am very careful when using it....no need to attract anymore attention to my position than I am already getting by the Sunderlands.....

I use it constantly as a matter of realism.
I don't think the Germans really knew what a magnet it was.

nothing generates an airraid in Bay of Biscay faster :rotfl:
