Default Thermal layer mod: Q

About TL mod:

I'm not familiar with it yet but going for it anyway. I'm just wondering, does it affects just DD's capability to find me, or does it also make changes in my hydrophones? If possible, it would be cool if the layer would cause decreased detection range for the sub also (when under the layer, of course). Could it be done if not yet? Just for realism...

Thanks, but maybe because of my bad english I think you didn't got my point out? I know enough about layers themselves and how to use them, I'm just curious could it be done that also player would loose some from his ability to hear... That is = more realism. Right?

The enemy detection of your sub, depends a lot on the noise meter and noise that your engines produce, also when a litlle more up to front in years the ships started using sonar upgrades and developements same as your sub, so historiclly your sub will be allways detected, but the ways to escape that detection develops also....

Example, if you stop engines from time to time toghether with the
silent running mode it will live at the dark the enemy ships above at least for a wile...

if you reduce the sonar and hidrophones detection you are reducing what is historycly facts...

You can escape them, but you have to be pacient, and go deepper as your sub can go, move slow , stop, that is the fun of this game...

Some times you even can surprise your agressor...

The only file that was was modified was the AI_Sensors.dat. This file deals strictly with the enemy sensors. The players' sensors were untouched so whatever you were playing with as default still exists.

The TL settings affected are the MinHeight=(depth). These were edited individually and simulate the effect of gradually slipping into an area where the AI active and passive sensors lose their effectiveness. The later war sensors are able to penetrate a bit deeper than early war (due to later technology)but still their efficiency gradually decreases. You still have to be quiet and use some common sense. This has been tested both in its original mod form with Random folders and in the latest SH3 Commander format and both play out exactly the same.

This mod is very subtle. There are no indications that you have been issued a "TL" loaded file by Commander other than using the stealth meter. Personally I used it for testing purposes but it made things way too easy so in real game play I turn it off.
