My current assigned Patrol Grid brings my course extremely close to Scapa Flow and Loch Ewe so I decided to conduct a raid on Scapa Flow.
So far I'm pretty far into the network of pennisulas and islands and I've put three destroyers on the bottom so far. I would have rather saved the eels, but the destroyers they were used on were coming dangerously close to detecting me. One of them did and was bearing down directly on me. I fired when he broke 1800m, he didn't go down as fast as I was accustomed to and I freaked out thinking that he had somehow absorbed a direct shot since he shot a Star Shell and turned on his search light and kept coming. Luckly he began to eat water. I'm hoping that when I finally do get to Scapa Flow itself there's at least one or two nice juicy Tommy hardware for me to sink my teeth into. For those of you who have conducted such a raid what has the effort yielded you?

Sounds like you are entering from the Eastern side of Scarpa. It has a heavy patrol on call 365 days a year. The west side is a little easier.
As for targets, depends on the date your entering Scarpa. You could find nothing, or strike the holy grail of a battleship or two. Good luck and I'll buy you a bottle of Beck's for your celebration of sinking the Royal Oak! ![]() |

I'm midway through my GW career and when I first started out in my lowly IIA, I headed to Scapa through the east entrance. Never saw one warship before getting into the bay...did see some battleships though.

There is sometimes a capital ship moored, usually a cruiser like a Fiji or something, and on rare occasion a plump, juicy battleship, and then also one or two destroyers docked. The odds of one of these capital ships being there decrease the later into the war you are. If you want a spoiler, a schedule of when and what capital ships are moored there can be found in the wiki, at the bottom of the page:
http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...unting_Grounds Or for more fun, don't look at that spoiler schedule, and just be surprised at whatever you happen to find there or not, and just be happy when you come out alive!

I'd much rather not look and just bang my head on an overhead pipe as I jump with excitment within the small confines of my VIIB as I identify a battleship or two.

I went there in early April 1940, expecting to see a CV that was there I believe I sailed into Scapa flow 4-3-40, looked around and nothing. I had printed out the sheet that had the dates along with the ships at which ports. The only question is there on the sheet is a date gap. Ex. 3/25/40 -4/05/40 . Should the ship be there thur those dates or just those 2 days only???
What are other peoples experience with this? |

Scapa Flow ... do you mean this...
Note: GW mod in use Scapa Flow its easy... go through North-East canal, dive near the shore (land on your right), go submerged near the land (to avoid patrol ships) and you will unleach hell once near the docks 3 raids and all destroyed I really like these pictures ![]() ![]() ![]() My crew finishing a medium tanker... with a cruiser overturned in the background. Raid to other port, south of England (Merthyr). Also all destroyed with exception of 2 flowers which ran out of "bullets"... the shore defenses gave some thrill while I was surfaced ![]() To get there, go close to north shore, submerge close to the port and go near land to avoid patrols ![]() My crew doing their job! |

I have RUB installed right now so there's no canals. I have NYGM Tonnage War and Grew Wolves sitting in my JSME mod installer waiting to go. I'm leaving it on RUB for now because that's what I started this career using and it's been on of my most successful.
When the next patrol starts for Wolves at War I'll probadly switch NYGM back in as I don't think GW is officially cleared for WaW yet even though there are threads concerning it. |

Ah, thank you very much Ref.
*Edit* Hmm... none of the downloads seem to work. The Rapidfile links says it's not there anymore and FileFront gets you to the actual download but it never downloads.

Thanks mate for the info on the warship anchor dates. I'll try earlier to see if they are around next time I'm in one of the areas and the date is right.

If I were to install a canal mod right now would it come into effect in this instance?
I know that if you start a campaign with a certain mod, you have to continue to use it and switching will cause it to crash.
