Default Torpedo loadout issue (What happened to the bug thread?)

Well I've read the torpedo sticky and searched but haven't found
anything else on this, so I don't know if this is a well-known issue or not.

I've completed 18 patrols of a career (pretty sure I'm on the most recent patch) and am driving a Type IXC. After the last patrol, getting disgusted with the TII torpedo, I decided to go with nothing but the old TI, which almost always detonates and has a variable speed setting, etc. So in the loadout screen I double-clicked to change each torpedo. Simple. Started the next patrol and spent a long time TC'ing to my patrol ground, only to find that the game had ignored my torpedo changes. In fact, it also screwed up the default loadout as well. The default loadout has TI's and TII's loaded roughly in pairs -- I changed everything to TI; the game changed that to almost all TII's.

It doesn't matter what changes I make in the loadout screen (even if I don't change anything) -- I always end up with the same result. I also worked my way back through previous saves and still get the same result. What's up?

Thanks.

Change the torpedo loadout as the last thing you do before letting the hawsers go. THEN (and only then) it will work.

Deep Six, were you in port at the end of the calendar year, and your next patrol went to sea after January 1st? There is a bug, that I've not seen mentioned elsewhere, where SH3 ignores your torpedo choices if the calendar changes year between your refit and set sail date. Each year has a default loadout, and for whatever reason SH3 will reset your choices if the new year occurs during your refit.

Only way I know of to avoid it is either to

-- add days in base to reach January 1st before launching the patrol (you can change your flak gun a few times to add days, doesn't cost renown and each change adds two days

-- shorten your days in base to set sail while still in December.

If you are not at the new year, kindly disregard

Thanks to both of you for those suggestions - Sven, good advice, and it certainly can't hurt to make torpedo selection the last step. Threadfin, I was indeed in port when the calendar rolled over, so that must be the culprit. Your explanation of a default loadout makes sense - I suppose the calendar-dependent default is rigged that way to allow the introduction of more advanced types of torpedos into the game? Just a guess.

The funny thing about all this is, I sailed the patrol anyway, sore mouthing at first and convinced it was going to be a wasted effort. I ended up with one of the biggest hauls yet - 68,000 and some tons, including a passenger liner. Only 1 dud TII out of the lot.

Thanks again!

No problem, I thought that might be the reason. Good job making the best of it .

Anyway, there will be another new year, hopefully

Indeed. "The 'Tipperary' song, if you please!"
