All the years I had SH3 I don't think I ever sunk one, may have some thing to do with the fact the war with Denmark is over in a few hours.

You will meet Dutch shipping in allied convoys
The Danish warship fleet IIRC was all in port till the Germans tried to grab it mid war where upon most of it was scuttled Not sure about Danish mercs I suppose they headed for other ports as other countries shipping did when war broke out in their own country I expect there are a few entries for Danish shipping in convoys |

I've seen quite a few Dutch and Danish vessels in convoys. Many ships from occupied countries continued to operate out of British and Allied ports. Logically the majority of any nation's merchant fleet is out at see at any one time unless called back for any reason such as impending hostilities. So quite large numbers of Dutch, Belgian, Norwegen, Danish, Free French, Polish, Greek etc. ships opted to remain outside of Axis control. This was a very brave decission and a great sacrifice that merchant crews made, as they would be separated from their homes and families for an indefinate period.

Indeed, similar with us Dutch. We gave up while stopping the germans in the north, only places they got through easily was in the south where the country is at it narrowest.
We did show our fighting spirit in the east where we stopped the Japanese navy for weeks so that the Filipinos and several other Islands could be evacuated. I'm having the utmost respect for all who fought in the 2nd WW. No matter if they surrendered or not. War ain't nice. ![]() |

Dudes, I think the Danish government, rather like the Thai government when faced with the Japanese "We're coming, ready or not", did the only sensible thing.
Even if you'd fought on it wouldn't have taken much more than 6 hours and would have been a whole lot nastier. France couldn't stop Nazi Germany. Britain couldn't stop Nazi Germany on the continent. Somehow I doubt Denmark could have done. I really haven't met anyone who believes Denmark should have done more to stop Nazi Germany.

Oh yes, sunk some of my countrymen and even one or two Danes. but then I do sink ships on principle sometimes, since there are some significant bits of Dutch Geography missing on the map, and some added that weren't there at the time, I once spent a whole patrol in may 1940 sinking ships that couldn't have sailed from those areas
![]() Call me nuts, but sometimes you gotta stick up for the principle, even if they're only fishing boats... ![]() |
