Default Computer Woes 1

Does anyone know why my browsers show some jpegs but not others?
When it doesn't show I get a blank space where the graphic should be with a little white square with a red X.
Thats on all the browsers I have. Firefox, Yahoo, and IE.
Confused!

The red x appears when the browser can't find any picture on the given location.

This can be because:
1. The URL (for the image file) is wrong.
2. The picture has been removed from the server hosting it.
3. The server hosting the image is down or not responding.

Probably other possibilities as well.

4: The connection timed out
5: The picture(s) are protected from certain UA's (User-Agents)(Your browser).
6: There was an error while your UA were about to start rendering the image (normally never happens)
7: You have 1 or 2 of 3 UA's set not to load images/only from orginating site
8: ... more possibilities available...

My bet is #5 is your answer..

9: Some image hosts/sites requires HTTP_REFERER enabled, this is possible to disable in Firefox, maybe you have accidently done that.. open about:config in the address-bar and put "network.http.sendRefererHeader" in the filter-bar.. if the result has the value 0 then it is disabled, double click the item to enable it and refresh the image page.

I'm okay on that. I checked that before I posted.
What confuses me is why it shows on one page but not on the next.
It's even happened here when somebody posts an image and it won't show but most do.

Next time you stumbles over a broken image, post the link here and the url to the site from where you found it.

The same thing happened to me with Firefox. It looks like quite a few of the pictures are messed up. The link works just fine to multiple routes, but the picture doesn't come up. Are you a model railroading enthusiast? I would like to consider myself one also.

Well I'm glad it's not a problem with my browsers then.
I'm a railroading enthusiast but I play virtually. I don't have a model railroad. I like MSTS and Trainz. They are both good in their own right. It mellows me out when I'm uptight.

most of the images on that site are broken, FF,Mozilla,WGET and Konqurer and it is likely cause the files are missing, I wouldnt be suprised, even their html is incomplete and missing a lot of requires stuff.

They had switched servers and all the files didn't get transfered.
