Default realistic minimum specs

I am considering buying SHIII, have heard great things about it!.

Trouble is, that I may not have the system to run it.....

Specs:
1.4 GHz P4, 512RAM, 128MB GeForce 5000 vid card...I noticed that I have the minimum specs to run the game, but in reality, how well will the sim work?

thanks

I don't remember which GeForce card I originally had, but the game just wouldn't work. I went out and bought a Radeon 9550 video card and life has been good ever since.

My now 'old' computer is running an Athlon XP 1.53 GHz chip with 512 RAM. I've also got Win XP home edition.

Incidently, it also works on my HP laptop which has a 1.5 GHz Pentium M chip with 512 RAM and "Mobility" Radeon 9200 video card.

Don't know if this helps, but it's just one more system where the game does run...

I have a AMD 64 3200+ at 2.0ghz, 1 gig of ram, and a 6800GT and it runs great. However, I like to edit and make single player games where the brits and germans have huge sea battles against each other, however my computer can't handle it most of the time . Though it is fun to watch a horde of Stukas attacking a british task force.

In reality, SH3 prefers a higher/faster/better computer.

But with your specs, you should be able to play ok... Just remember, ok is not great. Ok is just ok.

So far as I know, SHIII is pretty forgiving as far as minimum hardware. Not great, but forgiving!

Your best bet on a quick upgrade if you want a boost would be RAM, I think.

Yeah, a 512MB boost of RAM should be an easy way to up performance.

Default my comp

I run a 1.4 ghz athlon, 1024 megs of ram, radeon 9550 and I have no problems with this game...it looks pretty good too!

I do get a slowdown with the smoke and fire but that is pretty minor and not enough to really cause a problem.

The RAM is what does the trick I think...it really made a difference when I put it in.

Back when I upgraded my video card I thought it would be a good idea to go from 512 RAM to 1024 RAM so I bought an additional 512. All seemed well at first. Computer recognized the RAM, and the video card seemed to be fine. Then the crashes and lock-ups began. I was sure it was the video and called the mfg for some tech support. They were great and offered all sorts of help. But it didn't work out. Then I called the computer mfg (ABS) and my out-of-warranty machine was 'worked on' over the phone. The first quick fix was to "format the HD". I'm convinced this is the answer all tech support people have when they have no idea what your problem is... I lost all kinds of stuff, and reformatted twice. Still no joy.

Remember now, all this is to get SH3 up and running.

Finally, I get a different support guy at ABS and he quickly determines that the RAM is either bad, or doesn't match what I already have. "Take it out", he says. So I do, reformat one more time, and to this day I've not had any more problems. I've got 2x512 RAM chips collecting dust in my closet, but I've got SH3 running like a top.

And yes, I did try going to the Crucial website for an in-computer RAM compatibility check. It was unable to work its magic for some reason.
