Default Question for Sailor Steve (bugs in 1.4b?)

I too haven't played SHIII since last July. I quit when major bugs were mentioned for patch 1.4b. Were those bugs ever fixed - such as problems with crashes and the sonar man?

You always seemed to be the most level headed around here.

What problems with crashes and the sonar man? :hmm:

I don't believe either have been problematic since 1.4b. There are many features that remain relatively unfinished for 1.4 - but no game-breaking bugs of this sort that I'm aware of.

The sonar man was a bug in the 1.3 patch, and was fixed in 1.4. There are no game breaking bugs left anymore. Welcome back!

really what i want to know is will a mod make careers worth while - cause they aren't rewarding in the standard game. What I need are convoys that don't all look alike and that don't all follow the same path like clock work. I know that Donitz finally stationed his u-boats in long patrol lines that stretched 700+ miles south of Iceland because convoys took many routes rather than just one path. I know this cause I saw a picture in a book some years ago that showed his planning HQ with such a map on the wall with two such lines of u-boats stretching perhaps 1000 miles.

But in SH3 I can always go just NW of Ireland and find 1 or even two convoys following the same route each time like a train on a track!

I need mods to fix this - are there any?

Try the Improved Convoys mod or Teddy Bars NYGM mods for that.

FYI, the NYGM campaign uses the IC campaign data - and improves on it. Definitely the latest word in campaign improvements

I actually worked (over 20 hours of "manual labour") on this very problem for Improved Convoys, and I dare say it worked quite well. There is a lot of zig-zags and route variablity that I have added - that's on top of Jason's excellent re-work of convoy compositions, and now NYGM finished off the work by adding speed variations as well

The mod works with any SHIII version no problem, so I highly suggest you give it a try!

Improved Convoy's is at u-boot.realsimulation.com. For the NYGM mods, check in Teddy Bars posts in the forum about it for the latest updates. There is one at the above site but, I'm not sure it is the latest.

Improved convoys is a must have, but digging around ive found it a bitter sweet deal.

It improves convoys drastically. By makign convoys more historically accurate, its acutally fixed a rather aggrivating bug of the convoys scattering to the 4 winds or otherwise looking like one big birdnest.

The bitter part is while it says it reduces single merchant traffic, i think it overkills that reduction. Looking around i found 1943-44 spawns at 8% probabilty that the group will spawn, but the one ship in that group had a 0% chance of spawning.

Other then that id get the latest harbor traffic and the Graphics mod (name starts with a B, i dont remember the exact name) that revamps all the subs interiors. Its a must have.

Or you can just grab the latest version of Real Uboat, a mod taht has harbor traffic and IC . Its overall aim as the name implies, is to make things as realistic as possible.
