I was stalking a merchant way out in the Atlantic on a stormy night when all of a sudden it was reported that our boat had serious flooding in 3 compartments and a mere 13% integrity!!
Of course, it was all hands to the pumps as fast as possible to save the boat but i have no idea what hit us ![]() I can only conclude that it was the merchant which hit us and plowed on but very weird. I checked on sonar later but could find no trace. No report either of any other ships or planes around. Managed to get back to port with one engine destroyed and other minor damage ![]() One to put down to experience? |

You were almost a casualty of an underwater mine.

Sounds like a mine.
Speaking of strange events, my periscope was spotted from 5000 meters.....admittedly, it was about 14:30 on a clear calm day....but still, 5000 meters..in 1939!!! Does IUB have a tweak to reduce the number of carrrots allocated to destroyer crews ? |
