Was on the sixth day of my patrol, in a vernerable old T-class in the Japan Sea. SJ surface contact at 6k and approaching fast. The weather was terrible, but I altered course for an intercept. 5k, still nothing on visual. Prepared deck gun for surface action. (Is there any other way to prepare a deck gun?), 2100 yards!!! Still nothing! According to Radar it's directly in front of me!!! Then a whistling sound and all is lost!!! I never even saw what sunk me. Not on periscope or bridge view. What a way to go!
