Default Friendly Task Force in Taranto

Using HT1.46, I was in the Med when I decided to dock at Taranto. I re-armed, re-fueled and got some R&R. When I started my next patrol, right as I was leaving port, the WO spotted some ships... That was weird, only because I didn't spot any ships on the way in. So guess what I saw?

28 March 1942

It was probably supposed to be an Italian task force of some kind... Bismarck, Hipper, and 6 Soldati Class DDs... Very cool. And they were all using different skins.

One day, I hope we get some real Italian battleships, though. Bismarck and Hipper don't really pass...

LOL...I get your point.

I am playing SHIII again for almost 2 weeks now, and allthough I started with a clean IUB1.02, I already find myself changing more and more.
Especially the sound-files are great fun to fool around with.

But I make sure everything I add/change, goes through JSGME...even it some mod isn't designed for it, then I make my own JSGME-version of it.

So I figure I may get the same kind of surprises on my upcoming patrols.

Myself, I have tweeked almost every sound file in the game (except speech; I like speech the way it is). Most other sounds have been personally customized to my liking.

The same goes for most of my graphic files. At some point or another, I have modified almost every TGA in my database... Ok, not every TGA, but all of the important ones. Airplanes, subs, ships, sky, water, terrain, special effects... You name it, I messed with it...

Also, I have so so many gameplay tweeks, that I have no idea what version I run anymore. Call it a hybrid 1.4b, IUB, RUb, HT, IC, Atm8km...

And in order to accomadate this, I don't use JSGME (gasp!). It would be too difficult if I didn't manually do everything myself...

I guess you could say that my version of SH3 has been Marhk'd off.

Then is this still your first SH3-install?
I'm trying to do everything through JSGME, for when a patch (if there ever will be another, which is doubtfull though) or a new IUB-version is released.

Btw, did you notice the excellent camo on the Bismarck?
I bet that in foggy conditions, it could look very much like a Nelson-class:

No, I've been through quite a few installs, but I've learned to make backup disks just in case. I would die if I had to totally re-install everything.

Doubtful, but if a patch ever comes out, I'll just make another backup disk and put all of my mods on it. Right now, my current backup disk is about 700mb, and that is AFTER I used 7z to compress it.

Yep, the Bismarck camo skin is by Type941. My Nelson Camo skin is also by Type941.

In the fog, it is quite possible to mistaken the two, but the biggest mistake would be to approach a BB on the surface, regardless of German or British.

I wish we could use the radio, to contact friendly vessels in the neighbourhood.

It shouldn't be to hard, to make a script that allows this...the limited radio-calls we can perform right now (send a contact- or status-report) show that it is possible.
All that would be needed, is a way to select a channel (BdU, nearest friendly warship, nearest friendly ship, nearest friendly Uboat, etc.), and a standard set of message-types.

But I guess this would be up to the modders, as I read that the SH3-devteam no longer excists (working elsewhere).

And off course, it would also be nice if the radio-antenna actually would be deployed, when about to transmit...
It's a ring-shaped antenna, which retracts into a box on the inside of the right conning-tower side.

Wow,
Nice encounter.......
I would love to find a Taskforce of just surrendered Italian capital ships, escorted by British vessels somewhere late in '43!
That would be a nice turkey shoot....
Anyway, nice find!
